Well it's that time of year again when the TV is inundated with documentaries and specials on the terrorist attacks of 2001. I find the whole topic fascinating myself...probably the most interesting moment in history of my lifetime. I've collected a few of the better shows that have been presented over the years...especially those that deal with the backstory and the analytical aspects of the event. I don't care too much for the "stories." For those that missed the actual news coverage of the event MSNBC will again play "911 As It Happened" this Thursday. It's approx a 4 hour replay of the actual 9/11/01 news coverage of the events as they unfolded. But what I'm really looking forward to is a brand new special this Thursday on the History channel called "102 Minutes That Changed The World." This will be a collection of home video footage taken by numerous eyewitnesses to the attacks, woven together and presented in real time, unframed and without editorializing. Nothing quite like it has been produced thus far and should be something not to be missed..
 
I remember the day 9/11 happened.I was folding laundry and my Grandma called me and ask if i was watching the news.When I turned it on,it was unreal what I was seeing.Everything went crazy from there.My best friend was going crazy,because she couldn't reach her husband at Rickenbacker Base in Columbus.He's a Master Sargent.Her uncle was at the pentagon,but on the side of the building that didn't get hit.People were going nuts to get gas.The gas lines were huge.
In May of 2005.My daughter was a freshman,and she went on a choir trip through school to New York.I went with her,and we went to Ground Zero.All I can say is everyone one should see it at least once in their lives.It makes you want to hold your family and friends tight,and appreciate everyday God gives you.You can't go to Ground Zero without crying.It was very humbling for all the teachers,students,and parents on the trip!
 
Hard to believe that was already 7 years ago. I remember it like yesterday.

I was working at the civilian service which in my case meant a working time from 6 AM to 2:30 PM.

2:30 PM in Germany means 8:30 in New York.

So I was on my way home when at 2:46 the first plane hit the world trade center. Only minutes later they had it on the radio, interrupting Smokey Roinson's "Tears of a Clown".

They said it looks like an accident and I thought "What a tragedy!"

At home I immediately turned on the TV and was live on air when all the other things happened.

A second plane hitting the other tower (at that point it was obvious that it was NO accident), a plane crashing into the pentagon, another one coming down in Pittsburgh, people desperately jumping out of the windows (with the reporter saying "the crashing sound you hear in the background are people who are smashing on the ground" - CRASH.....CRASH... (still gives me the creeps),

the towers collapsing, they were even talking about an explosion in front of the State Department which was a false alarm.

It felt unreal. Like a movie. Something you'd never expect to happen. It was the ultimate shock.

I was working for the Appeals Service. A mate who I was always joking with came in and said 2 planes have hit the twin towers in New York. I said "..go on..." thinking it was one of his usual sick jokes. Till he said no seriously...And at about 3pm our office emptied as people went home. Mark and I went a couple of shops down the street from our office to a TV shop. There we went inside and stood looking at that image of Manhattan totally obscured with smoke. Unreal. Since then I have heard from a lot of people who knew Brits that were in the towers at the time. Sad. The people jumping was on the Naudet Brothers' documentary. Horrific.

Aww, they've combined them together into one day now...
That really sucks. I wonder how many of the victims had a birthday today?
 
I remember being at work when I first heard about the 9-11 tragedy.My first thought was,those cowerds have to use terrorist tactics because conventional war would be instant defeat for them..and they know it!
