Alternative Ending: your views?

What did you think to the alternative ending on the DVD? Personally, I'm glad they stuck with the original, but it was interesting to see the raw footage.

"...we should sue them..."
I've never seen the alternate ending. Could someone upload it to Youtube please.
i got the US region1 DVD before the bristish UNCUT version came out, just to see the alt. ending.
You have to watch it.

after seeing the original ending a milion time it was good to see something different.
did enjoy it, good twist.
But havent seen it for a short while as my multi region remote is dead :(

"you've had that in your trousers all day?!"
Affirmative. When I bought my first DVD player back in 2000, Britain had a crap choice of DVDs. I wanted Burbs, Breakfast Club etc and the only way to get them was through Amazon.com. I'm glad I got it. Whilst the original ending is best, it was cool to see the alternative. It's not bad but it just...lacks something. Well worth a watch though!

I love Hans in the alternate ending!

Police Detective - "What's your date of birth?"

Hans Klopek - "I dunno."

Police Detective - "You don't know when you were born?"

Hans Klopek - "No."

Police Detective - "You don't get to the beach much do ya?"

That makes me laugh every single time I watch it, I love it.

I like Hans' face when that guy brushes past him LOL

As I already mentioned on the imdb board: the German DVD doesn't even have the alternative ending. It has virtually no features at all. I'm glad at least it features the film itself.

Well could somebody tell me in a few words what happens in that alternative ending? Thanks!

Walter, I have your dog.
so, is it on youtube?? i wanna see it :P

"no..no it's my note."
Hey! I know this is an old thread but here it is on youtube - the .

Also there's another upload of .

Anyway so I think why the alternate ending lacks something is because the pacing is much slower. They did well to use the one they went with because after all the build up, the Klopek house exploding, all the drama that came out of that event where the once quiet cul-de-sac was full of people, emergency, and police vehicles, and all that commotion - the alternate ending would have slowed it all down to a grinding halt. It was out of pace with the previous scenes.

The dialogue when Gibson talks about the suburbs is excellent.
Yeah that was the one part they could have left in or slipped those lines in there in the final cut. Especially when Hans says "It's true, in L.A. nobody ever said anything" too funny.

I agree. Plus, I usually recall that part of the alternate ending quite nicely, too.

Werner Klopek: But, Mr. Peterson, you were not quite right about the suburbs. No. Here, all you have to do is take one step out of line — you paint your house the wrong shade of pink, you buy the wrong kind of car, you make one or two human sacrifices. Then, when you walk down the street, everybody says, “Oh, there goes the weirdo.”

Ray: Why — why did you come here?

Werner: I came as you did — for the quiet, and the privacy, the good life, the convenient shopping, with always plenty of free parking. But everywhere, everywhere I met only suspicion, and distrust!

Hans Klopek: It’s true. In L.A., nobody ever said anything.

Ricky: Go for it, Mr. Peterson — yes! Ha-ha! Whoo! Good goin’, man!
