I'm a gamer, too. Started as a child when I bought my first "Schneider CPC" from my cousin which must have been in the late 80's. That thing still used cassettes to play games. And a green - colored monitor. Nonetheless, if you're 7 years old and this is your first gaming experience, it's fascinating.
After the Schneider CPC I bought the Commodore 64 from my cousin (yes he always sold me his old stuff but as a child you don't really care) and with the Commodore he also gave me boxes of floppy disks. It was amazing to see what they contained.
I could go on like this for hours but to make it short: Amiga 500, NES, Game Boy, Super NES, Mega Drive, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, Wii and XBOX 360 were following and I still continue playing. Of course let's not forget about the PC. First game on my Intel 80386 PC (in Germany we called these old PCs "386er") was "Prince of Persia". God I remember some great games my buddy gave me. "Tie Fighter" with a dozen of floppy disks, "Monkey Island", "Day of the Tentacle"... Do you guys also still remember the times when you had to mess around with the autoexec.bat and config.sys in order to get games finally running?
Currently I'm also playing GTA V, I still love the Pro Evolution Soccer Franchise, Forza Horizon was also great. Would love to play much more but when you're coming home from work at about 8 PM it's kind of difficult.
By the way for all retro gaming fans out there, I just recently bought a magazine via ebay which is called "Retro Gamer". It doesn't get better than this. Pure nostalgia.
