Okay, I deal with prolific, priority persistent offenders (street robbery, burglary, etc).
For the really dangerous ones (padeos, violent sickos etc..) they are dealt with by the Public Protection Team.
Our lads (and girls) are usually okay. No I've never been attacked.
My role? It's part of a multi-agency team. Our team is a small family. From Probation there are three of us, 2 of us are officers and there's an administrator. There are also two cops and two drugs workers. My role is kinda central, pivotal in ensuring we all communicate. I draw up the schedules for the week, liaise with other agencies (hostels, housing, courts, mental health etc...) carry out home visits, and process any breaches of orders. There's a lot more to it but that's the basics.
What happens is. We have a Multi Agency Prolific and Priority Offender Management (MAPPOM) meeting. This is attended by myself and other probation workers and the cops.
Offenders are highlighted for the meeting by any agency based upon calculations of their offences (Matrix). The higher they score, the more likely they will be accepted on the prolific offender programme. But other considerations are also taken into account, like police intel - not necessary convictions alone. If there's enough intel, that may suffice.
Then, once accepted, we watch the lucky dudes like a hawk. We do home visits, 2 drug tests a week, refer to drug treatment, and see them four times each week. We also look at accommodation (very important) and employment/education/training.
If they comply, all good. We know if they're offending. If they continue to take class A drugs and committ further offences or just don't behave...Probation recall them. The police arrest them. Then the cycle happens all over again.
