Art, was that you?

Ray

Unbelieveable. Typical incomeptence of this crap government. All of my prolific and priority offenders are on that thing! It was supposed to be encrypted? But it was de-encrypted...

It's hilarious you know. This government want more and more of our liberties stripped away, more surveillance, etc...etc... they want a National DNA Database. And yet in the last few months we've not only lost this memory stick, but a separate incident of millions of details of people who claim child allowance. All lost. Could be anywhere.

A national dna database? Big brother is indeed watching, and getting really personal. I like my dna being unknown to the gov. They already have my fingerprints.

They do???? Jesus....this thing is well under way! They'd really have to hold me down (a few of em too) to get my daubs.

Read a book by Stan Cohen I read during my Criminology degree called "Visions Of Social Control".

Say Art, what is it like to work with these offenders? I can imagine it's no bed of roses, right? What exactly is your function? Just curious.

Do you sometimes think that those offenders seem to be quite normal people when they talk to you (like "and THIS guy has killed some people?").

Isn't it dangerous sometimes? Ever been attacked by a foaming offender?

Okay, I deal with prolific, priority persistent offenders (street robbery, burglary, etc).

For the really dangerous ones (padeos, violent sickos etc..) they are dealt with by the Public Protection Team.

Our lads (and girls) are usually okay. No I've never been attacked.

My role? It's part of a multi-agency team. Our team is a small family. From Probation there are three of us, 2 of us are officers and there's an administrator. There are also two cops and two drugs workers. My role is kinda central, pivotal in ensuring we all communicate. I draw up the schedules for the week, liaise with other agencies (hostels, housing, courts, mental health etc...) carry out home visits, and process any breaches of orders. There's a lot more to it but that's the basics.

What happens is. We have a Multi Agency Prolific and Priority Offender Management (MAPPOM) meeting. This is attended by myself and other probation workers and the cops.

Offenders are highlighted for the meeting by any agency based upon calculations of their offences (Matrix). The higher they score, the more likely they will be accepted on the prolific offender programme. But other considerations are also taken into account, like police intel - not necessary convictions alone. If there's enough intel, that may suffice.

Then, once accepted, we watch the lucky dudes like a hawk. We do home visits, 2 drug tests a week, refer to drug treatment, and see them four times each week. We also look at accommodation (very important) and employment/education/training.

If they comply, all good. We know if they're offending. If they continue to take class A drugs and committ further offences or just don't behave...Probation recall them. The police arrest them. Then the cycle happens all over again.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like a very interesting and diversified occupation.

The job's cool. Unfortunately there are some right tossers working in probation LOL

"Who is there?"

"Yoohooooooo, it's the burglar again."
