As ironic as it sounds but in the following link you'll find Charlie Chaplin giving on of the best moralic speeches I've ever heard;

I couldn't believe how well respected and high thought of he is in England. Here in Sweden we associate him with being foolish, goofy, funny etc but in England he's thought of as one of the biggest, and surely most respected, movie stars of all time.

The speech is good to bad the man was a psycho in real life. A really sadistic man who isn't much less evil then the man he portrays.

Really? Never heard about that. What did he do? Stuff like ringing the doorbell and then just run?

Haha I'm afraid it was far worse then this. He was known as a sadist, hitting, harassing and taunting people. He had a complex over his height, as many other cruel men in history Chaplin was rather short (not exactly confirmed but somewhere around 5'3 - 5'5).

A classic quote:
"probably the most sadistic man I'd ever met." - Marlon Brando.

I wrote a paper on Chaplin back in high school so I've read a lot of nasty stuff. I don't really remember all the sources but if you're interested it shouldn't be hard to find more info about this.

I remember that he loved young girls and was married to a girl who was A LOT younger then him (don't remember exactly but it was like a 40 years difference or something).

He also had many children, i think the official number is around 10-11 but he's thought to have produced more then 30 children with different mistresses.
