Mitchell talked about this more than once. For some reason no one really took him serious. Few small messages in some newspaper, that's it. Mankind's still laughing about little green men and the government is glad about this. At least they didn't kill him after his confession, right?

Just like the "Disclosure project" of 2001. Hundreds of people who were working for the military / government were willing to testify about their UFO and alien experiences. No one took notice of it.
