First appearances are very effective in this movie.
Check out Rummy's first appearance. His trophy wife yawns and quickly covers it. The way he puts on his sunglasses with precision and seriousness LOL

Ray comes over immediately as a worrier!

Art's initial scene (the first 3 seconds) is a bit dark...he looks molevolent...then we see the light hearted dork he is.

Yes, Art looks very sinister, but Rummy's first appearance is in the window the night before however it is just a shadow. It does contribute to his mystique as the hard nose guy, until it comes to climbing poles.

Hey this just occurred to me. the power pole was "very high", but he certainly didn't mind getting on his roof.

Maybe his real fear is electricity. Maybe he encountered some sort of shock torture during his time in the bush...

...but still he didn't say a word, grabbed the radio device, mumbled something like "Murdock, I'm coming to get you!", grilled the huge guard who was torturing him, escaped out of the jungle camp and en passant rescued a couple of captives.

Or wasn't this the other guy?

I think it wasn't the height...it was the danger of hitting the wrong wire.

Or the responsibility. He didn't really want to take charge - just goad from behind.

So...maybe *crunch* he wasn't really a captain in the bush....

You think maybe a lower rank? All his gesturing and equipment portrays what he wanted to be?

I think so, too.

He was in the bush but worked in the storehouse, some kind of office or something like that.

Never actually had a gun in his hand. But when he came back he told everyone how brave he fought his way through the jungle.
