Football in the Burbs?

Ok, here's my take: I don't know why, but When I hear someone say "The ball game" I think of baseball.
I also imaging the 'Burbs taking place in summer time, like July / August, which would make it the MLB season and not quite yet NFL season.
That, combined with watching where the zoom in on the Universal Earth at the beginning ends, overlayed with the below image would have Ray being a Cubs (Bears) fan. This assumes he was born and raised not far from Hinkley hills.
Also, this got me curious as I was thinking the license plates on the cars in the movie would also have to show something but they did a good job of making them very generic looking. The scene in the garage where Ray is showing art the tools has the Cherokee's plates visible for a moment and they are super generic looking (also the garbage truck), could be anywhere and definitely not the California plates from the 80's (blue background with yellow letters)

Your arguments are very understandable. I don't have much to do with American sports, but I have always associated the term "ballgame" with baseball. There are also dictionaries that make a reference to baseball here:

So combined with the zoom on the map and the map you just provided I'd also assume it's the Cubs.

Your arguments are very understandable. I don't have much to do with American sports, but I have always associated the term "ballgame" with baseball. There are also dictionaries that make a reference to baseball here:

Excellent topic!!! I believe baseball is 100% correct. Illinois, specifically Cubs... However Art would rather go down to the deli & get one of those beef sandwiches, because he only ate 3 plates of food & a pineapple at ray's house...
