Freakies

I just noticed that the Freakies which Ray and Carol are eating while watching Jeopardy can already be seen earlier in the movie, standing in the kitchen right next to the Gremlins cereals.

Does anybody know if "Freakies" really existed in the 80's?

Can somebody recognize what is depicted on the front of the box? Maybe another reference? I can't recognize anything.
