Okay. It's a very paternal family, the Klopeks. Hans lives with his two uncles. He has a picture that "came with the frame" of a female, but that's where it ends. Check out when he sees Carol and Bonnie close up. The bewilderment.

Now. Check it out when Bonnie *touches Hans* "all that moving around must be very hard on you, Hans" and he flinches - but the paternal touch of Werner soothes it out...

Thoughts?

I personally believe he has been a shut-in since birth. I'm going to have to think about that some more and get back to you.

Oh! I remember from the alternate ending that Hans doesn't know his date of birth. Odd? I think so...

I'm going with the shut-in theory aswell. the girl that came with the frame is probably the closest he's ever gotten to a girl, apart from bonnie and carol.

Awww! When you put it that way, it's kind of sad! That probably IS why he had it in the frame still. What pictures would the Klopeks have in the house?

Yeah it is sad. :( but then again...these people are clearly psychos! They kill people, tear their livers out and make satanic pâtés.

What happened to the mother? Did they kill her? Maybe she died in birth? Father? Maybe he was a child of one of the families they killed, and they just kept him because they were getting old, and they needed someone young to help.

Maybe.... he's too tall to belong to Werner and Rueben! lol.

I know that Rueben is his uncle, but is Werner his father or another uncle?

probably another uncle. i've always seen them as his grand-uncles.

I never really thought of Hans as 'evil' until the end of the movie when he's driving the ambulance. He looked kinda creepy...

He could always plead insanity in court and get off on probation. He has psychological issues that he needs to work out!

In this country all you'd have to do is turn up in court. Maybe say you couldn't get enough milk when you breast-fed and you'd be let off a murder charge. Unreal.

I'm a Probation Services Officer. I have a degree with honours in Crminology and 5 years' psychology qualifications with forensic science. From my point of view I find the 'burbs interesting regarding the legal side of things (Ron Howard's dad, the cop at the end, reeling off the list of offences).

If I sat down and wrote out all of the offences for Ray and Art - and Rummy aiding and abetting, added 'em up and thought about a pre-sentence report, any decent solicitor (lawyer) worth their salt in today's climate, especially in the UK, would get them a community order (unpaid work/community service). It's a joke. Or maybe a suspended sentence.

As for Hans, yep, you're actually quite right. They'd take into account his age, background, upbringing, previous convictions, level of risk, and he'd probably...........be adjourned sentence for a psychiactric report, in mitigation, be advised to cry, show intense remorse, etc... and would probably get 18 months community order, 100 hours unpaid work and a condition to attend so many psychiatric sessions.
