Simply because of this quote and the subsequent explanation by Ricky Butler, I watched this movie On Demand a few years ago.

Looking back on it, the movie has more in common with The Burbs besides the fact that it is mentioned in the film. The Ray Peterson role is played by young fashion model who moves into the apartment of a brownstone, where her neighbors are various Klopek types.

... OK thats a pretty bad description, but regardless of my alleged plot similarities this movie is a very underrated and overlooked horror movie from the 70s with a tone very similar to horror classics like The Shining or The Exorcist. While I'm not saying The Sentinel is on the level of those movies, I would highly recommend it. Especially if you're considering renting a newer horror movie because I can blindly say that The Sentinel is above their level.

I've been curious about this movie for quite some time. I'll have to remember to look for it on one of those rare trips to the video store...

The same goes for me. I've never seen "The Sentinel" but since you recommend it, I'll look for it. What about "The Devils Rain"? Hmmm, I just checked imdb and it has some pretty bad comments...

Ricky Butler mentions the gateway to hell being left open....has anyone seen The Gate?

Is that the one with Johnny Depp in it?..Or am I thinking of the Ninth Gate?

Hmmm The Gate was (1987). I haven't seen the Ninth Gate. Any good? With Johnny Depp I should think it will be...

This is The Gate http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093075/

"Three young children accidentally release a horde of nasty, pint-sized demons from a hole in a suburban backyard..."

It was ok, but Johnny was the only thing god about it. The ending sucked to me.
