Hello neighbours,

since I don't know if I will be able to have access to the internet within the next days I will already post the following:

Have yourself a wonderful christmas time and I wish you all the best in 2008!

Sorry, I was out of town on Christmas. I hope you all had a great Christmas and will have a Happy New Year. Herr Peterson, I hoffe dass du eines gluckliches neues Jahre haben wirdst.
Dein Englisch ist immer ausgezeichnett.

Oh, thank you. I'm trying my best.

Dein Deutsch ist aber auch nicht schlecht. Wo hast Du Deutsch gelernt?

I took two years in high school and then have been studying on my own. My problem is there are no native speakers here in Houston to talk to. Now if I was trying to learn Spanish, there would be no lack of native speakers.

Falls Du Fragen hast, oder Hilfe brauchst, kannst Du Dich auch gerne mal an mich wenden.

I took French for 4 years in school. The frightening thing is: Today I'm hardly able to speak and understand French at all.

Where's the appropriate Smiley? Ah, here it is: :(

Vielen Dank, I schätze dein Angebot der Hilfe. Das ist von dir sehr nett.

My biggest fear is that I will say something and mess it up so that it becomes offensive. Like that Montie Python skit where the guy buys a really bad book of English phrases and he ends up getting taken to jail. So if that happens please accept the nice interpretation.

LOL - a classic skit. But being misundersood accidentally is a concern. Thankfully German in many ways is very similar to English. Some languages, such as Chinese, would be almost impossible for me to learn since many of the sounds are not really any that we use and minor changes in inflection and pronunciation can make big differences.

I think you'll find a certain resemblance between most European languages. Because they're all based on Latin. French, Spanish, Italian, Portugese....so many words almost exactly the same.
