We are less than 1 year from the 20th anniversary of the release of the Burbs. If the Burbs had been made today how do you think it would be different? Some things are obvious - it could not possibly be as good because Brother Theodore is gone and Tom Hanks would be toooooo expensive. Anything else?

I suspect Mayfield Place would be multi-ethnic.

Perhaps - the Klopeks would not be killers but the noises from the basement late at night would be them cooking meth. That would explain the hiddeous raging inferno of their last house.

It would suck.

I'm so glad it was made in the 80's.

Movies are crap now.

hahahaha that's my few cents. :D

I have to agree with that! It wouldn't have the same feel.

oh, it definitely couldn't be recreated. I wouldn't want it to be. I just thought it might be fun to point out HOW it would suck and why it was a unique product of its time.

It would be PC like all the other crap we get nowadays.

You'd have, as you say, a black family. Maybe Asian.
The 'guys' would probably be replaced with three emancipated, strong-willed females.
It wouldn't be fun. It would be pandering to a wider, more 'modern' audience.
For an idea of what I mean, take a look at the Halloween films DVD covers. How they've changed.

Halloween 1 *1978* http://www.amazon.co.uk/Halloween-Restored-REGION-1-NTSC/dp/B000RIWAVW/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1208029005&sr=1-20

Halloween H20 *1998* http://www.amazon.co.uk/Halloween-H20-Twenty-Years-Later/dp/B00005NI83/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1208028918&sr=8-1

Halloween Resurrection *2002* http://www.amazon.co.uk/Halloween-Resurrection/dp/B0000AE7C3/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=video&qid=1208028823&sr=8-3

Aaaaaaaaaand House On Haunted Hill *1959* was a superb B&W movie with Vincent Price. Check out the original DVD film cover.

The remake was the most horrendous piece of crap I've ever witnessed. But take a look at the cover in *2000*. http://www.ukquad.com/houseonhauntedhill.jpg

Catch my drift?

We wouldn't have a Jerry Goldsmith score but some crappy rap music.

Plus we'd have more gore and boobs. It's as simple as that.

Ricky would probably be gender confused and instead of admiring Bonnie's lack of tan lines would want to restyle her hair.

The music would most definitely suffer. Instead of that great Goldsmith score, we would indeed likely get a bunch of rap crap.

Art, you really know your movies. I never know about the original House on Haunted Hill. Vincent Price was great. I always like his "The Abominable Doctor Phibes."

I used to think that a 'Burbs remake would be interesting, but not anymore. Too much unimaginative remade crap on the market these days. Most of it is either poorly done or just a spoof. How do you spoof a spoof? One remake I thought was well done was Psycho, but that's because they hardly deviated from the original an inch. They even reused the original score. It was even better then most of the original sequels! LOL!

LOL yeah Dr Phibes...Jeez I remember them as a kid....drinking through his neck and playing that huge organ! and feeding poodles to their owners LOL
