Mr. Peterson’s Burbs Day 2007:
Another glorious sunny Burbs Day has passed. Right on July 14 the summer suddenly came back to Germany. Coincidence? No way!
So I rose with the sun, slipped into my blue bathing robe and solved a crossword puzzle. Eating my cereals I imagined I was eating those Gremlins – cereals. I fetched the newspapers barefooted. Taking a look at our community newspapers I said “Darling, we should move” to the empty room (“darling” is currently on vacation with her lady friends).
I watched the “Mr. Rogers Neighbourhood” intro slightly lip-singing the theme and giving Fred Rogers his 10 seconds of remembrance. After throwing away the remote control I wandered on the balcony with a glass of orange juice, sipping it for a few minutes while I was staring suspiciously at the neighbour’s house (hope the old lady there was able to cope with that).
Back in the kitchen the dog food moment came. Since Art was eating it in the morning I had to do the same. Taking a finger pinch full I realized my stomach was revolting against my plan. Mumbling “ah, that thing with my stomach again” I forced the dog food in my mouth. To my surprise it wasn’t that bad. Quite condimental. Nonetheless I wasn’t able to quash the natural gag reflex…ALRIGHT, THAT’S ENOUGH OF THIS CONVERSATION! Next year I will try sardines and pretzels.
Next I listened to the soundtrack in the backyard a little bit and also had “Machine” blaring out of the speakers. In the meantime I crashed a few coke-cans since I have to admit I’m not much into beer.
Wearing my vacation togs I watched “The Burbs” before noon for the first time.
Until the evening I was preparing for my accounting exams which are due at the end of July so just let me say, that was the part of the day which was least fun.
At 9 p.m. four of my poker mates came by and we watched “The Burbs”. One of them already knew it, the other three which were introduced to it, liked it, too and we had a good time.
I’m already looking forward to “Burbs Day 2008”.
