June?

He probably did forget to change the calender, heck I forget to change the calender all the time. In fact, I have a calender on my wall that still says April. I should really go change that...

By George I think we've got it! This movie must take place sometime between the last week of June and the 4th of July weekend!b
 
Let's try to make it even more precise:

The movie itself starts on Monday since the cop says that Walter disappeared on Monday. Furthermore Ray took a week off, so it's likely that he starts taking a week off on Monday.

Now let's assume that it's 1988 since the movie was shot in 1988 and released in 1989.

We need a monday on the end of June 1988. My calendar says that June 27, 1988 was a monday.

Can we agree on this?

When they enter Walter's house on tuesday it's June 28, so the calendar still hanging there seems to be correct as well.
 
Yes I guess it's about 4 days. Next time I watch it I will try to make a little timeline.
