I´ve decided to go a little bit further with my mad crazy love for the Burbs, I´ve decided I´m going to attempt the impossible, to re-create the entire street in 3D.
In my searches for blueprints, I´ve found out that Mayfield place is in fact Colonial Street (aka, from Desperate Housewives), that yields far better results than searching for the "burbs" files:
Etc...
If you have more information, pictures, blueprints, feel free to dump them in this post...
...or if you´re just curious how it develops, just keep watching this thread - there WILL be W.I.P Pictures.
I think I´m going to start off with Ray Petersons home, unfortunately that house has changed quite a bit over the years, and I´ve only been able to find the blueprint for the FRONT of the building, the rest would be appreciated too...
I want to make sure I have all the details, because it´s very VERY hard to change a model once built.
Stay tuned for progress. Do post fantastic detailed images if you happen to find them
*Edit* Dang...this is going to be a thougher job than I thought, very hard to get details for the houses, especially from the side & back yards...
Alright, I'll see if I can find any more detailed images or other stuff which might help you in creating 3D Mayfield Place. This sounds like a project of epic proportions. I think people will actually discuss this.
I once wrote a message on the imdb board which I called "Finally 6.5" and just remarked that I was glad that the imdb rating finally climbed from 6.4 to 6.5.
Later there were two guys who (in connection with the 20th anniversary of the movie) went out and actually were able to have a brief interview with Robert Picardo and have a phone call with Joe Dante concerning "The Burbs". They remarked that there still is a certain fan cult in connection with this movie and mentioned a few examples. And then they mentioned that there is even one guy who was happy that the imdb rating climbed to 6.5. And in the moment that they mentioned that it felt really cool to be a part of that. It felt cool that they mentioned something like this to Joe Dante and that I was somehow involved.
So what I'm trying to say is that if you manage your project I'm pretty sure that sooner or later people like Joe Danta, Dana Olsen or someone else from that movie will learn about it and appreciate it (and that will feel great).
Holy cow this is super awesome! And really fast. You can instantly recognize that it's the Peterson's house, the little balcony which is attached to the sleeping room, right above the garage. Nice, really nice.
So which program exactly are you using?
But what do you mean with lack of interest? Are you not interested anymore?
Oh, it´s all ego based I guess...no response on the WIP images working for 2 days in a row...so I was guessing it looked like crap since no one responded to the project ....
I´m using www.blender.org (blender 3D) open Source software to produce the images + my own experience in 3d of course. (there are no - make art - button...really)
Sometimes it takes more time than two days until somebody responds as most of our members are not passing by on a daily basis. I'm sure it's appreciated by the others as well. Speaking for myself (and as somebody who has absolutely no talent in doing stuff like you do) I can only say that I think it's amazing.
