Well I just watched the Halloween remake and boy, did it suck! I mean really suck. You know that kind of suck when your underwear...well anyway, it sucked.
Even those recent horror movies which you can call "good" are not able to match up to the classics like "The Exorcist", "The Shining" and so on.
However, there are some really creepy asian horror movies out there. And I'm not just talking about "The Ring" and "The Grudge".
An extremely creepy movie I recently saw was "Shutter". This one will scare you, no matter how many horror movies you've seen in your life. It's extremely well done. Sounds, images, camera views, virtually everything is designed to scare you. Unfortunately they are already making a Hollywood - version of this one. WATCH THE ORIGINAL PLEASE!
Re: Woman In Black. Okay on YouTube I guess. Though late at night, lights off, doors locked, get engrossed with no interruptions... By the way, my comment is on that Amazon link if you search! Chris from Nottingham.
Ray. You've got me wanting The Shutter. The Grudge was creepy as hell. Dark Water and Ring are cool and I totally agree WATCH THE JAPANESE ORIGINALS. Though I do have to say the Sam Raimi remake of Grudge with Gellar was pretty good as remakes go.
What's happened is whenever the woman in black (ghost) is seen, a child dies in the town. The solicitor here doesn't know about this and saves the child who was going to be the next victim. The WIB therefore is after him for revenge. Its a horrible climax in the book, but the movie is also pretty good.
has anyone seen The Eye? (i thin it's chinese maybe. atleast they speak mandarin from what i remember)
it's CREEPY. not like traumatizingly scary, but wow.. i was so friggen scared!! O_O it's kinda long though, and the end keeps on forever, lmao but still, the first half of the movie is awesome.
I have seen "The Eye" exactly three days ago. I believe my expectations were too high. It had it's creepy moments (like the ghost who said "you're sitting on my chair" and started to attack or the old hovering ghost with the destroyed face in the elevator).
Still those moments were too rare. Overall it was a decent movie but since some people compared it to Shutter I was expecting too much (you can't compare these two). And guess what: a Hollyood - remake is coming soon.
Already ordered: "A tale of two sisters" which must be another excellent Asian horror-drama although the horror seems to be more subtle:
Have you noticed Japanese horror has threads running through them? creepy young unhappy kids....those big black eyes...half-deserted apartments...and oh yes black masses...usually on CCTV!!!!
But although some elements seem to keep repeating, it never gets boring or repetitive because all the other elements surrounding this usually keep you on the edge of your seat.
i saw another asian horror flick a year ago or something.. i cant remember the title.. something about some stairs perhaps? they kept nagging about some fox on some stairs that led up to ... uuh something. LOOOL! it was so annoying cause it looked like it was superscary, but it was mostly just asian girls, and they all wore school uniforms...they all had the same haircut, same bodyframe etc etc.. we coulnd't tell them apart so my friends and i were like "...uh yeah does anyone know what's going on?" lmfao.
