Found this board from imdb and it's great to see the love for Dante's classic! I remember seeing The 'burbs in theaters back in 1989... I was 8 years old and was already a Dante fanatic. This was a year in which I was seeing anticipated sequels (Ghostbusters II), superhero relaunches (Batman), and getting giddy about the next year to come (Gremlins 2: The New Batch).
The 'burbs was a diamond in the rough. I loved the film immediately, but it would be a few years before I began to truly appreciate the humor I was too young to grasp or not keen enough to find. I've shared this film with so many friends who have also fallen for it. Anyway, thought I'd give a bit of a background about myself and feel the cool waters of a 'Burbs Baptism wash over me.
My favorite scenes/jokes: Art and his overindulgence at Carol's expense... "I've never seen that. I've never seen someone drive their trash to the curb and then beat the hell out of it with a stick. I've never seen that..." (or close to that quote)... "Hey Ricky! Get that lame-o off your yard!"... and my all-time favorite: "Hey Ray, is a home furnace supposed to go to 3000 degrees?"
God, I love that street...
