Hi everyone.

I can't believe this place has been here all these years and I've never known about it. I've been a huge fan of The Burbs for more than 20 years now, and I had no idea there was a group of people I could have been talking about it with all this time!

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen The Burbs. Several hundred by now. Like a lot of you, I go through periods where I watch it almost constantly. It's especially good for me when I'm going through hard times. I don't know why this film helps me through those times like no other film can.

A few years ago when I was redecorating most of my house I would do all the work during the night, like 10 pm until 4 or 5 am. And I'd have The Burbs playing on a portable DVD player on a loop, watching/listening to it 3 or 4 times a night for weeks at a time. And I never got bored with it. Amazing!

Every few months I go through a little ritual where I hunt around on Amazon, just to check if any of the versions of the DVD have a Joe Dante commentary on them. This time while I was hunting I was amazed to find the brand new Blu Rays coming out this summer. I've been waiting and hoping for something like this since DVDs first came out! Please let it have commentaries on it!

Anyway, with those new Blu Rays coming out, I started hunting around online again for stuff to quench my Burbs thirst. And that's how I found this place. I wish I'd known about it sooner, but I'm glad I finally found it. I hope it's still active. Reading through all the old posts over the years gives me a similar pleasant and happy feeling that watching the film does.

Hope to get to know and hear from lots of you in the future!

Hi Kris and welcome to the Burbs Board.

Indeed there is not as much traffic here any more as it used to be several years ago since some people have left the block and never re-appeared (Art, Bonnie etc.) which is a pity. However, there are some people left who keep this board alive.

Glad to have a new Burbanite in the neighbourhood. It seems you're a true fan of this movie and so you are absolutely right with joining us here as we share the same passion about this movie.

Feel free to go through the older threads and also to re-activate some of them in case you want to contribute something. There's a lot of stuff we have discussed here (theories on the green lights etc.).

Welcome to the neighborhood!:) It's good to have yet another fan on the site.

Welcome new Burbanite!

We're happy to have you, neighbor. :)

I understand your feelings perfectly, I guess we all want that neighborhood feel, with the quirky neighbors that always want to know whats going on in their neighborhood, I'm that way too.

And nothing beats living in your own home, you can fix what you want to, do what you want to in the middle of the night and nobody really cares, that's the beauty of home ownership. You can drink a few hundred beers on your patio and no one cares, play loud music at night, fiddling with your car, crazy-mad scientist project, no one cares (but us surburbanites) ;)

Thanks for all the welcomes over the last few weeks!. Still very glad to have found this place :) I'm having run reading through all the thousands of posts each day!

Welcome! 'burbs Day 2014 should be coming up in a month or two! Be sure to watch out for that!
