OK, this is a thread about what I'd call radio artists. They are artists which you can frequently hear on the radio, yet many people don't even know them.

It's the typical "Yes I know that song but I didn't know who sings it" thing.

So who do you think belongs to these artists/bands which are well known by often being played on the radio and still somehow being unknown to the major public?

I'll start with Paul Carrack. He was once a singer in the "Mike and the Mechanics" band and afterwards had some great solo hits as well. Since I don't feel that Mike & The Mechanics get the credit they deserve, I'll list them up here as well.

Sorry RayP, I don't listen to the radio any more. But, Mike (from mike and the mechanics) is Mike Rutherfor from Genesis.

You don't listen to the radio anymore? Who listens to their radio? (lamp swinging).

But seriously, fed up with today's music or why?

I'm sick of all the commercials on the radio and they play the same stuff over and over. I just get board with it.

Personally, I've also just gotten tired of the same songs day after day. Not that it's anything against those songs - I spent countless hours in the past listening to the radio. I reached a point where if the DJ said that a particular artist would be coming on soon, I was very rarely surprised with a song that came on.

The magic of the radio to me was always hearing that new song that I couldn't get enough of. Adding to the experience was the fact that I couldn't just go online and download/listen to it at will, so I pretty much had to just wait for it to come on the radio. (That's not to say that I didn't record hours of radio songs on cassette tapes :) )

Its a joke to us here that our local radio station only has one double CD and plays it constantly. Even after not listening to it for about ten years, I heard it on somewhere and dang if they weren't playing the songs they used to a decade before.

Hm, alright, maybe we got a little more diversity on our channels here. I've got a channel which plays everything from the 50's to the 90's and that's alright with me. Commercials are only sent 5 minutes per hour which is also alright.

Yeah, I also remember the days when you couldn't go online just to find your song. Whenever I listened to the radio I had my audio cassette in it, ready to push the record button as soon as one of my favorite songs came. They became my "Summer Vacation" cassettes, I took them with me wherever I went during my summer vacations and listened to them all summer long. I don't have a horse in the basement, but in the cellar there are still my summer vacation cassettes from `93, `94, `95 and `96.
