Today is my Grandma's birthday.
She is 87 years young now.She
is amazing, and one of my best
friends. My Great Grandma, which was my Grandma's mother lived to be 96.I have three kids, when my oldest was born my Great Grandma was still living. So at that time there was five generations of us women in the family!
My Grandma has a crazy sense of humor, and when My Great Grandma was what we call in the US, a spit-fire.One time my Father made fun of her pancakes,so she threw them at him!

My Grandad died aged 98 and my Grandma died 3 days before her 100th birthday. We had the telegram saying she was getting a telegram from the Queen. Unlike me my Grandma was a monarchist. She'd have loved that. I always remember her saying she'd love to make it to hundred to get her telegram. Bummer.

I bet your Grandad and Grandma had some wonderful stories to tell.I love to listen to my Grandma tell me stories about the family and our town.I would have enjoyed an afternoon of listening to what your Grandad and Grandma had to say.One can learn many things by listening...

It's a nice way of saying someone's age,
because a person is only as old as they
feel...

So does every person reaching the 100 receive a telegram from the Queen?

I loved to hear my Grandad talk of when he was younger. Talk about a different age. He left school at 14 and went straight on the railways. He told me about a great snow storm in the 1920s and a night he was digging a train out of 8 foot drifts, for 12 hours. They were the days.
Other things he'd say (not in a racist way) but matter of fact like, for example he was past 65 years old before he saw the first black person in Britain...I can't even imagine that! and he and my Grandma didn't even see their first banana until they were in their 40s! Unreal...

Loved that story about your Grandad!!!
My Great Grandpa and my Grandpa worked
on the railroad. There is no better sound
than the sound of a train!

Absolutely...I wonder what your and my Grandpa's have made of Polar Express LOL

Yeah the story he told of that snow storm...I was almost there...deep snow...all working together...having hot drinks bought them etc...

I know my Grandpa, never met a stranger. He loved to,as he would say bullshit with anyone.
LOL.If the movie had come out when I was a kid,he would have said he was the Tom Hanks character...That they changed him into a cartoon just for that movie, and had I said no they didn't Grandpa. He would have laughed and made his top denters pop out to tease me,and said that was how he got his fake teeth...

So I know everyone on this board hates country music but talking about grandpas and their stories made me think of "The last of a dying breed":

Somehow true.
