Ooohhh.... I'll have to agree with the Shining. The first time I saw it I was staying at a very large hotel on a cold, dreary day which made an even bigger impression on me.


Anyway, I don't know if it's classified as "horror" or not but AUDREY ROSE scares the holy living hell out of me. I have a very hard time sitting through the whole thing...lol.

So this is about Horror Movies. That doesn not necessarily mean "the most scary", right?

I like Slashers. "Halloween" pretty much started it all (great theme song, by the way). The early 80's had some nice Slashers as well, especially among the "Camp horror movies": Friday 13th, The Burning, Sleepaway Camp.

Also good: The Prowler.

OMG Maniac! I saw Burnt Offerings YEEEEEARS ago. Karen Black and Oliver Reed. That freaked me out when she's in the attic at the end! Now let me try and remember "Ive been waiting for you...Ben?" Man...I must be going back 26 years!

oooh and Maniac? My best friend and I often watch The Shining....the other year he flew up to Edinburgh, Scotland for training. He was in an old hotel in an old part of the City...no-one else there in his wing of the building...guess his room number? 236....LOL LOL one off 237 he about cacked himself!!!!!

Yeah, I totally dig the Shining, even the 1997 mini series was extremely well done. It's just a classic ghost story that you can't beat.

I also enjoy the original Halloween..probably because it's one of the few in the series that I'd consider more psychological then 'slasher.' However, after H20 came out I think it replaced Halloween as the greatest Halloween movie ever.

Burnt Offerings...yeah, sometimes I forget just how creepy that movie is until I sit down to watch it. It probably scares me worse than Audrey Rose. The end scene was totally unexpected and horrifying. I was very young when I first saw it and didn't even really comprehend what was happening, which scared me even worse...LOL! It's on DVD now, you should pick it up.

How about demonic car movies? Christine was pretty good, and 'The Car' was pretty scary for its time despite its corniness.

Its Dario D'Argento....DEEP RED..David Hemmings but an Italian film, like SUSPIRIA.

Dude, you totally gotta check out the mini series. It was live. Actually I think it was an ABC presentation that aired over 3 nights in 1997. It starred Steven Weber as Jack Torrance and the very hot Rebecca De Mornay as Wendy. I remember the anticipation leading up to it and I was thinking ...'You mean that comedian from Wings is gonna play Jack Torrance? WTF?' But he's a hell of an actor and it shows in this movie.
This version was supervised by Stephen King and follows much more closely King's novel and they actually used the real Stanley Hotel, the hotel that King was staying at when he was inspired for this story, although I don't think it's as creepy looking as the Timberline Lodge.
It was released on a 2-disc DVD set about 5 years ago and runs nearly 5 hours altogether. It's another one I have a hard time sitting through without getting creeped out...lol.

Suspiria was interesting.

Hope they'll show the mini-series here in Germany one day.

I couldn't agree more. Probably not so much as she use to be, but boy, she was fascinating a couple of years ago. I remember her awesome performance and looks in the Outer Limits Episode "The Conversion". God, she looked simply perfect in that episode.

I thought Signs was good, but I like M. Night Shamayalan(sp?) if you can count his stuff as horror.
