I am currently watching the scene, where the protagonist and his pal are going back to the house for the second time....avoiding the bees this time. During the early parts of the film i felt compelled to post or to find a community for The Burbs. I am a first time home owner, and can feel some sympathy for all characters involved, and the hyperboles in play on neighbor life. So glad to have found this movie.....

Hi and Welcome.
I'm a first time Homeowner too.

And you're right, there is a certain "neighborhood feel" to the movie that makes us want to see these characters in our own streets (except murderers of course), it's the suspense of everyday life, life in the burbs where you never know what's going to happen, where you watch the neighbors house when he/she is gone for the weekend, help each other out, fixing on the house when you got the time etc...
...there's nothing in the world like owning a private spot on earth that is just our own. After owning a house, I can't imagine moving into an apartment again, ever. Can't even understand that I managed to live there for so long. Seems so surreal to me now.
