The 1990s miniseries of Stephen King's IT is one of my all time favorite movies. It seems like HBO Max will make a prequel called "Welcome to Derry".

I'm really looking forward to this one and hopefully it will have premiere in the first half of 2023.

To me this mini serie did a better job than the two recent movies.
Of course most will disagree but they've waited so much time to get these movies, that the audience felt like obligated to love them frenetically.

The atmosphere of Derry you feel when you read the book is better handled
in the mini serie.Besides they respected the late 50ies setting.
The movies had a few good ideas, was gorier but the tone felt flat. The mini serie had a very limited budget, couldn't dare to be too violent and gore but it felt like the Derry from the book.
Kid-Beverly was well handled in the movies but that's not enough.
I remember that quick shot of Pennywise who was enjoying the moment and eating a leg or an arm, like it was a beef sandwich, it shouldn't fell flat but it was almost comical rather than creepy. The mini serie somehow despite all its flaws, felt serious.

A lot to unpack here in a space I am not well versed. Lots of work to do. I may not get to IT until I change into my vacation Togs.

I agree, the miniseries is great. I watched it as a child, with a friend, home alone, rainy summer day so the nostalgic factor is huge. With that being said the atmosphere they managed to create is very good, and child actors did an amazing job.

Fingers crossed that Welcome to Derry will capture some of the magic the 1990s adaptation had.

In the pilot of Sharp Objects(2018), when the main character gets back to her small childhood town, it recalled me Derry, strangely. There was something about the atmosphere and I told to myself, thats how Derry should've felt in the movies. Coincidentally, Sophia Lillis was in that show and in It.
