Hello fellow 'Burbinites. I've had a long time interest in modernizing the old 'Burbs forums that was once created by @BonnieRumsfield. She has created such an awesome community. I didn't want this to just disappear one day. I sure hope she comes back sometime!

The coding​

This project took about a few days to create and then about another 2 weeks to tweak. Initially I had some issues and oversights along the way which prompted me to have to redo the scrapping and importing. The code include a mixture of Python, PHP, MySQL, Json, Docker and some manual work. Data had to first be scrapped to Json and then imported to PHPBB3 since it's architecture is far more simpler than Xenforo. Now there still is some work to be done like fixing up the quoted text, updating signatures that were missed, finish creating icons for forums, some other small adjustments to name a few.

I've also created two custom themes. One is the main green theme to match the old design but more modernized. There is also a blue version that's pretty much the same design but blue. I've also included the old logo but may change this in the future.

User accounts​

As you may have noticed accounts or noticed trying to reset your password that you have not received an email. I wasn't able to get emails of the accounts because of course this is private. If you previously had an account on the old forum then head on over to this page: https://www.theburbs.club/help/recover-account/ for more information on how to recover your account. Somethings to note about accounts:

• Usernames with spaces were replaced with underscores. This was important for the data to be properly imported throughout our loops.
• Usernames do not have emails associated with them. So requesting password resets won't work as we don't have access to emails for accounts.
• If your account had an avatar that still loaded an image then it was transferred over. Otherwise you will have to re add it once logged in.
• Your time zones will default to Chicago/America. You can change this once logged in.
• Passwords will have to be reset once logged in with your temporary password that is given.

When logging into your account. You should edit your settings, update what you want or remove. There is a possibility that some signatures weren't caught and added to accounts. All of the old Admins/Mods were added to the moderators group. Their statuses have not changed.

Future plans​

I have a few different plans to add to this website in the coming weeks and months. That include:

1. Wiki - That details information about the movie. This can better help inform people of things that are scattered about the forums.
2. Yearly Watch Together - Maybe schedule a yearly thing where we can all watch the movie together at the same time, comment, have fun etc.
3. Chat Room? - Maybe a chatroom where people can chat in real time. This will be useful for when we do the yearly watch together.
