Who are you? (2021 updated version)

Hello neighbors, I hope that you're all doing well. I know that we have a "who are you" thread, but it is really old and most of the people that wrote in it are no longer active. How about making and updated one with all the active members?

I'll go first and we'll see if some of you will follow.

I live in Sweden, in a town called Helsingborg. I'm married and have two daughters. During the days I work as an construction engineer, along side owning a little marketing firm where I do some consulting work. I've been a huge fan of The 'Brubs since childhood. I was maybe 8-9 years old when I saw it the first time (I'm 35 now) and I've seen it countless times after.

Some of my interests are reading, cooking, chess, martial arts, watches, perfumes, movies, video games and music.

Now that you know a little more about me, let's hear it, WHO ARE YOU? :)
 
California here, small city in the San Francisco Bay area called San Ramon. Live here with the Mrs. and 3 kids.

I started watching 'Burbs in the VHS era in about 1991 or so. My friend only had a handful of movies at his house and we watched them all many times in high school. The only two I remember were The 'Burbs and Tremors. We quoted both all the time and got funny looks from many people when we did.

Living in California, I have been down to Universal Studios many times and have done the tour down Mayfield place twice. I went to the Son of Monster Palooza convention a few years back and heard Joe Dante talk at that Con. (Courtney Gains was in the audience with us)

I'm into all kinds of things. My garage, where my car is supposed to be, is filled with Arcade games from the 1980's. Frogger, Defender, Joust, Ms. Pac Man, Pole Position to name a few.

I've passed on my love for the 'Burbs to my kids who help me celebrate 'Burbs day and have seen it so many times they get weird faces from their friends when they quote the movie!

That sounds great. If I'm not mistaken I remember our neighbor JoOngle being a fan of arcade games? And a lot of other cool stuff from the 80s?
 
I'm from middle of nowhere North Dakota in the US.

Been watching the 'Burbs since late 90s, but watching it religiously since early 2000s. Joe Dante is one of my favorite filmmakers.

Would like to visit Mayfield place one day! But I'm pretty much living in Hinkley Hills now.

I'm into writing, filmmaking, movies, video games, reading, etc.

No kids or wife yet to pass on the 'Burb torch, but maybe one day! I have gotten others hooked on the movie, though, so it's a start.

I'm 39 years old, come from Germany and live relatively close to Frankfurt am Main, if you've heard of the city.

I work in human resources and have already been with various employers, for example a large bank and also an accounting firm. Therefore, I can somehow also identify best with Ray Peterson, because in my mind he also came from such an working environment. :)

I've been watching The Burbs since 2004, and I remember that year very well because I was in a pretty down phase at the time. I wasn't sure whether I had taken up the right studies and how things should go on professionally in general, so I needed a bit of amusement. At the time, The Burbs was on TV and was able to cheer me right up. So I bought the DVD and have been watching it regularly ever since.

My interests include reading, movies, music (older stuff), writing my own stories, and physical exercise, preferably ball sports. But I'm also happy when the gyms open again, since I just don't do enough exercise at home. And despite my advancing age, I can't get away from video games. Lately I'm more and more addicted to retro video gaming.

It's hard to believe that I've been registered here since 2007, so for more than 13 years now. This must have been the year this message board was founded. So you see I'm pretty loyal to this message board. :) And I love that this is true for many of you as well.

The actual founders of this board here are unfortunately no longer active, Art Weingartner and Bonnie Rumsfield. They came from another board that existed long before this one here and was quite popular in the early days of the Internet before it was closed down. So this is sort of the spiritual successor of that board.
 
I'm a long time Burbs fan, 52 years young.

Work as a IT Supporter for a large pretty well known corporate, and have worked as a substitute teacher before and in advertisement as a graphics artist many times. In the beginning of my life I was a service technician (component level).

In my spare time I collect DVD's, electronics components, retro computers, calculators and old electronics antiques, even though I have the latest high-end gear. I do compose music on my synths from time to time, and make 3D characters in Blender (it's one of my long time passions).

I also do retro computing, one of the other forums which is as strange and quirky as this Burbs forum is thebackshed.org where we're a bunch of retro-computing freaks that have our own little cult computer that was designer especially for freaks like us, it's kind of a Commodore 64/Dragon 64/Spectrum - all in one - Basic based computer, possibly the worlds fastest basic computer to ever be made. It runs ONLY basic and nothing else, but handles 27K lines of CODE per second, has sprites, sound channels and even support for 3D polygons.

Guess I identify with Rumsfield since I'm your typical "get off my lawn" type of person that watch the neighborhood and make sure there's no one to mess with the old men in my neighborhood. And like Rumsfield, I too have communication equipment from that ERA, and night vision, thermal imaging equipment etc. Also live in Sweden like Pathologist, about 1 hour drive from Helsingborg. I have my own house, and literally bought it 10 years ago based on your typical the Burbs scenario.

So before this is getting TL;DR, I'll end it here, and I am pleasantly surprised that you before me have a lot of similar hobbies to me, let's talk more about that.

I grew up in Philly, and now live in the 'Burbs of Philly with my wife and daughter.

Growing up in the '90s, The Burbs was initially just a fun movie that would either show up on TV or my family would rent from Blockbuster. At some point late in high school, I bought it on VHS then went off to college - where I watched it almost every night while going to sleep. Luckily my roommate enjoyed The Burbs and we're still good friends!

I started fulltime work as an engineer in 2008 - finding myself in front of a computer all day, I came across this site and was thrilled to find such a strong Burbs following!

After a few years I got sick of the office and worked on a dairy farm for a while, milking cows and making cheese. We even had to move 2 times in as many years :)

After we had our daughter, I returned to the engineering world - so I'm back at my computer. I was lucky enough to see The 'Burbs in a rented out movie theater a couple weeks ago, which brought me back to the online community, so I'm glad it's still going!

Outside of work and The 'Burbs, I still make some cheese and enjoy anything food/cooking/fermentation related. I also play guitar when I can, and try to get my daughter involved with music as well. Some day I'll be able to introduce her to The Burbs :)
