JoOngle, yes, technology and the technological process can be also found in this movie and everyone likes their gadgets. Nonetheless, in my opinion it's the KIND of technology that matters. To be more precise: it's the mobile phone / mobile devices stuff. I don't want to paint it too black since it is not the doom of the world but I notice most people seem to be totally occupied with nothing but their mobile devices.

I see them in the restaurant playing with their mobile phones while their girlfriend is sitting next to them etc. Many people I know are mostly communicating via messagers like WhatsApp. I think this kind of communication is indeed kind of soulless. In the 80's you phoned the one you wanted to contact or even briefly drove by. Of course the new technologies also have many advantages, on the other hand I like the fact that I don't always have to phone people to clarify stuff etc.

Anyway, whenever I look at the past it seems to me that in the 60s / 70s / 80s there was more of a "together" than an "against each other". In Germany we call it "elbow society" in which everyone kind of recklessly is only interested in maximizing his or her own advantage. This maximization might have also been existent in the 80's but not so much on the costs of others than it is today.

+1 Mr P!
I see more and more people living more of a virtual life then an actual one. I can't help but feeling that it was better in the 80's.

It looks really nice, with a basement and everything. Now tell us what do you have in the basement Herr JoOngle? ;)

I have the houses central heating furnace, a pellet burning oven. and some tools, and there's a garage built in.

It's really beautiful. When did you purchase it? How many square meters to you have to live?

Do you spend a lot of time with it (fixing stuff, taking care of the plants / garden etc.)?

With my inability to fix things on my own, I guess I'd have to call someone everytime something goes bust.

It's a LOT bigger than it looks, that kinda surprised me AFTER I had bought the place. It's about 310 m2 (basement and indoor terrace included), that's about 3300 sq ft to you Americans out there.

here are some more images of it:

As you can see, the house is actually quite high, I recently fixed and repaired the entire balcony. It's very inexpensive when you do stuff yourself.

I've made the main living room kinda look like "Klopek style" old 50's look, since it already came with nice solid walls and nice solid wooden floors :)

I've got an indoor terrace too, which is absolutely wonderful in the summers, like an amazon rainforest, lots of vegetables growing in there. etc.

Yes, it's my little Swedish paradise.

And you won't believe what I paid for the house, 57000 USD. Yes! Your read right...Fifty Seven thousand dollars! Yes sir, Mr. Peterson. I'm a real bonafide homeowner now, and it's the best thing in my life.

The secret to the low price, is the location. It's located 1 hour away from the big city, we're not that small either...we're like 13.000 residents, whereas 7000 of them are very tightly nit together like a residential suburban area with nice "Burbish" streets and all.

Yes, it was a bit of a fixer upper when I got it at that price, and I had NEVER done any home improvement work before, never done any carpenter jobs either, and I was all 10 thumbs when I started out fixing basic stuff here, but hey...at that price...it's a good "practice" house, it's so cheap that I can afford to do things twice to learn it. And I've probably done 200+ fixes to it over the 4 years I've lived there...but it's still worth it, and I'd do it again.

I've lived in rooms and apartments all of my life, and I hated every moment of it...noisy neighbors, hating my noises too, smell what they had for dinner, sick when they are sick, smelly air...etc... no thanks, never again - I'm gonna fight for this one! Best 4 years of my life.

Very nice, very nice, thanks for sharing these pictures and information with us. Looks like you finally found the place to spend the rest of your life at. I like your living room, it's indeed so kind of Klopek-ish :D

You actually bought it for a very economically priced amount. I guess I'd have to search for a looooong time here in the vicinity of Frankfurt to find houses this inexpensive.

I'm actually not discontent with living in an apartment, since my apartment might not be your typical apartment, it's a house in which 4 people are living. The two house owners (very nice people) live on the ground floor. They rented out the first floor when the mother of the lady died to an elderly women. And there's the souterrain in which I live. 60 m2 but I'm very happy with it. Nice and calm, no smell of other food, other noises etc. So it's quite OK.

However, once I can afford a house I might consider buying me one.

Do you live alone in this big house if it's Ok to ask?

Yes, I live alone (with hefty security monitors connected to all my living rooms, even above my bed, mwhahaha) :)

It's like the fortress of the future, my bedroom has an electrically elevated bed with 2 monitors above it (I won't disclose that part) but yes...this is def. my retirement castle.

Nice looking house... good solid walls.... good solid floors!

Price was definitely a steal for such a big house.
