Of my topic has been researched. My one topic of conversation is something I have often alluded to before, waaaaaay back, but never completed.

I will demonstrate and prove to you all
(you war you war you all) that the 'burbs was HEAVILLY influnced by Alfred Hitchc*ck's REAR WINDOW. An absolute CLASSIC. A real GEM with James Stewart, Grace Kelly and Raymond Burr.

I need to watch it once more with a pen & pad and I will report back. Off-hand I can recall a great many direct influences.

Great, great movie. I advise you all to see it ASAP - if you like the burbs, you'll love Rear Window.

The weird thing is, you know, like, we've talked before about when you watch the burbs? Well, REAR WINDOW - it's a cardinal rule - my wife (IS HOME???) and I only ever watch it on REALLY hot Summer nights. Really hot nights, when it's sweltering, when the heat makes the....anyway...when it's hot, okay. Cos the movie takes place in a heatwave. So atmospheric.

Seriously dudes, great movie and in exactly the same vein as our beloved Burbs.

I shall report!

Looking forward to your report.

And concerning the movies you watch when it's really hot: the same goes for me with "12 angry men" from Sidney Lumet. Fantastic movie. Highly recommended! The remake from 1997 is from the Exorcist-director William Friedkin. It's also very very very good. Has somebody already seen one of the versions?

According to imdb these are the movie references in "The Burbs" (Rear Window belongs to them):

References
Citizen Kane (1941)
 - In the Klopek basement there is a sled with the name Rosebud - a reference to Citizen Kane
Rear Window (1954)
"The Twilight Zone: The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street (#1.22)" (1960)
 - A plot involving neighborhood suspicion and judgment.
"The Lucy Show" (1962)
Patton (1970)
The Exorcist (1973)
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
The Sentinel (1977)
Gremlins (1984)
 - There's a box of Gremlins Cereal by the Peterson's sink, a reference to the movie also directed by Joe Dante.
"Geraldo" (1987)

I have seen Rear Window and both versions of 12 Angy Men. Stellar movies. I would also like to point out that the Klopeks house is similar to the house in the movie Gaslight. How do you say...well, both houses are full of brickerbrack. So much so that you feel claustrophobic. Also, if you haven't seen Gaslight I HIGHLY recomend it. It has the same wonderful moody feeling the Burbs has.

In the IMDB list it doesn't say Race With The Devil (the sacrifice tree resembles the Klopek's tree.

I agree with 12 Angry Men Too. I've got that movie. I have another like that called Night Of The Big Heat. But then 1942 Sahara, 1958 Ice Cold In Alex and Sea Of Sand do too. And Flight Of The Phoenix.
