I was feeling nostalgic a couple of days ago and put on some good ol' hits from my childhood days. One of the most memorable for me was the Baywatch theme song.

Back in the day, Baywatch was very popular and everyone watched it, the summer feeling, gorgeous girls and the epic music. It was far far away from my surroundings in little Sweden.

When I listened to the theme on youtube I found a post that hit the right spot for me, it went like this:

"I go through intense emotions whenever I hear this. I was born in 1985 and I grew up watching “Knight rider“ with David Hasselhoff and then subsequently started watching “Baywatch”, usually with my grandmother. It was considered a wholesome family friendly show, and I started re-watching the show during the pandemic lockdown and I just found that it created intense emotions in me that almost brings me to tears, whenever I hear The theme song to Baywatch. I subsequently found that watching also brought me an intense amount of joy and disconnection from present reality, that I can’t member experiencing on any other show except maybe “Game of Thrones“ but that was different. I don’t really know how to articulate it, I love this show so much and I remain a fan of David Hasselhoff, it’s really one of those special shows that I’ve ever come across."

I'm sure there are more neighbors that get the nostalgic listening and watching this. Enojy!

Baywatch was a very successful series around the world and was also very popular here in Germany in the 90s. Well, you know our special relationship with David Hasselhoff, who is extremely popular in Germany. But yes, there was something about the series that drew people to the TV screens. And I think it was more than Pamela Anderson in a red swimsuit.

But I also find that some of the opening credits catapult me back to the (seemingly) carefree days of my childhood or youth and trigger a pleasant feeling. I don't know if the world was a better place back then, but at least it feels that way somehow and the old series are a kind of connection to it. Especially with things like the Gummy Bears theme or Ducktales theme, I feel transported back to our tube TV in the living room.

Did you know that the title song was sung by Jimi Jamison, who was also the singer of the group "Survivor"?

Incidentally, Baywatch had different music in the opening credits in the first season, which I also like to listen to (Peter Cetera - Save Me).

As children of the 80's I believe we have a lot of things in common when it comes to our childhood memories.

I remember being on vacation when I was 12 years old, I saw the episode "Lover's Cove" where Hobie likes and spends time with a junior lifeguard who turns out to be terminally ill. I saw it on TV in the morning, and it affected the rest of my day, or maybe even multiple days, as we went to the beach, boardwalk etc.

I do agree that it was more than Pamela in a red swimsuit, but that aspect was certainly there for a 12 year old The first time I went to the Philadelphia Auto Show in 1995/1996, Donna D'Errico was there signing autographs - so I still have my program with her signed picture.

No tan lines ftw, but the show did have a lot of meatballs, didn't it?
