In his memoir, Feldman wrote a few paragraphs about his drug problem while filming The 'Burbs. He was on cocaine while filming this movie. Carrie Fisher and Joe Dante both pulled him aside and tried to help him with his "spiraling drug problem" as they called it. Directly from the book:
It's the middle of summer and we're working on the Universal lot, in broad daylight, trying to get a tight shot on my face. Joe wants to catch the Klopek's car in the reflection of my sunglasses, but I'm so coked out, I'm having a hard time holding still.
"Corey, you have to stop twitching," one of the crew members is whispering in my ear.
"I'm sorry," I say. "I, uh, had a lot of caffeine today."
Sometime after we finished filming, Joe Dante gave an interview, in which he talked about how much I had changed since our days together on the set of Gremlins. He said that filming The 'Burbs was the only time in his career that he dreaded coming to work in the morning, because he had to deal with Corey Feldman.
