And what a fine street it is, now that the runboard is open, new visitors & newcomers will be coming along pretty soon, I´m one of them.

My passion for this movie is kind of weird, it kind of looks familiar because I grew up in a neighborhood pretty similar to the Universal "street" in the movie, Hinkley Hills, Mayfield Place, neighbors where curious, met & spied around the neighborhood...with the newcomers and so forth, if you where a strange loner...you´d either team up like Art, or have a family like Rumsfield & Peterson...and they´d all wonder about the loners or newcomers, the good-for-nothing-probably-criminals-if-we-dont-know-them people...

I´ve probably watched that movie hundreds of times by now, it´s almost mental. :escher:

I suppose...somewhere deep inside, I kind of like the togetherness in the neigborhood idea, the idea of loving your street to the level that you want to spend the rest of your life there, just mowing your lawn, fixing the house, dab on some paint...and party with your peers, greet your old neighbor who never trusts anyone, and who´s trust you´ll only gain in the next 20-40 years or so.

I believe the movie did some mental magic on me, and created much of the way I wanted my own neighborhood...

The place I live now, IS virtually Mayfield Place, and I´m not kidding! Looking at this weird little (now secret, won´t tell ya yet) street in Sweden, this little town...is a MODEL copy of Mayfield Place, and where I live...Hinkley Hills. You´ll soon find out, as my membership in here...probably will reveal quite a bit of stories from my street.

God I love this street! Seriously!

I looked all over the world for a place to live, I had cash in my hand and wanted to buy a house, and I´m pretty sure I ended up here by subconcience and choosed this place for a reason, namely...it fit the movie like a GLOVE, didn´t think about that when I bought it...but I´ve been there for a while now, and ...I´d not be surprised if this was the model for Universals model.

It´s like a flashback from the 80´s, people around here literally live the 80´s. The people behave the same way as people did in the 80´s, they dress pretty much the same way, have big fluffy hair like the 80´s...and I could go on.

The neighborhood is pretty much like in the movie, perfect lawns, always someone trying to have the better yard, people going out to get their mail, greeting each other...the houses are PERFECT (I call them Perfect-Svenssons(tm)) ;) The PerfectSvenssons aka burbanites here, all have their own little dirty secret, which they are more than happy to share with me...I guess I´m their Ray Peterson around here now, I don´t shy away from visiting our neighbors, and we frequently babble about things happening around the hood.

The nights are amazing, just like taken out of E.T & The Burbs, lot´s of houses but also lots of trees & nature, with it´s fog & earth gases, misty lawns...all lit up by an Amblin moon, because we live in the suburbs, we don´t get the enormous city lights around here..so the skies are amazing, starry nights even more moody and amazing.

My house is kind of like Rumsfields house, I have the same view...so I can watch the hood at night, except it´s a brick house...but pretty much the same design otherwise.

Oh...I better stop here, I´ve got to save the good stuff for you guys in the other forum sections.

Anyway - glad to be here! And what a fine street it is, now that the runboard is open, new visitors & newcomers will be coming along pretty soon, I´m one of them.

Welcome to Mayfield Place JoOngle. Wanna go get one of those beef sandwiches?

Hi and welcome to the board, great post!

I'm also from Sweden and I would love to know where you live, maybe have a future Burbs day celebration togheter?

(Hint, I´m not that hard to find, really...I didn´t try hard to hide, google my nick, it´s been around for over 14 years on the net) ;) )

Thanks, and why not...let´s see how things go in here for a while, and who knows? Maybe in the future we´ll call the pizzadude and throw a party!

Hi JoOngle and thanks for introducing yourself to us. Sounds as if you're living in a cool neighbourhood.

That makes to Swedish members already. I must be the only German Burbs fan out there?

Yeah, maybe one day we'll celebrate Burbs Day together but it will be tough to get everyone aboard (many have to work in a couple of hours you know).

Oh and by the way (and this goes out to all new members): Feel free to read through our old threads and don't be afraid of reactivating older threads. I'm interested in your opinions as well (e.g. YOUR theories about the green lights etc.).

I live in South of Sweden, so that´s pretty close to both Denmark and Germany ;) ...that makes 3 possibilities already, maybe even Danish users in here?

I'm finally here too! I found this site from a link on IMDb. I read through all the threads there, except one which I will finish later. The one with 189 replies to it haha!

I loved the 'Deleted Your Post Burb Style' thread! Thought about adding one there myself. The movie is so great and me and several family members saw it in theaters when it first came out! About 3 or 4 times. Then got the VHS copy. Watched it many a time throughout the years!

Everyone in my family and I will sometimes repeat lines from the film, or add in a Klopek or some other reference from the film. Ironically my husband and I had just witnessed a neighbor's house actually burn to the ground, they weren't right across from us but across and two houses down on a corner so we actually had something like this happen (although in real life this is no laughing matter) but thankfully no one was home when it happened and nobody came out slithering down the steps!

We have pictures of it. A week or so later, my mom was driving me to my house and I made a reference to the Klopeks. I can't remember exactly what I said but she laughed. And the owners of the house were kinda strange and kept to themselves though everyone does that nowadays anyways...so...

So that's my intro, and I'd like to talk more about this movie with people as I really thought me and my family were like the only ones who even remembered The 'Burbs, let alone use lines from it from time to time. The movie has literally become a classic, a normal part of life. It's really wonderful that we're not the only ones! I never knew! I'll "sleep tight"!

Welcome to the suburbian hood both of you :)

Am I to believe we have a Female too now in the hood as well? (HorseInTheBasement)?

...it's so nice that we got so much diversity in here, welcome neighbor!
