Funny thing...it's an often dismissed art...
BUT just like you can blow a trumpet, you can play a trumpet, you can strum a guitar, you can play a guitar, you can hit a drum - you can play the drums. And believe me, when you go to see a band, if the drummer ain't good, it'll be the first thing you note - not the singer, not the bassist, etc...it just all falls apart.
You have to have a rock steady rhythm section. Without it, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page...all will sound crap. It's the cornerstone.
But some drummers have elevated themselves above and beyond. Buddy Rich for one. Neil Peart for another, arguably the greatest drummer on the planet. This is who I am emulating!!!
