White socks pulled up shortly underneath your knee must have been alright in the late 80's. The paperboy in the beginning wears them as well.

OH NO...knee high tube socks are not vacation togs

NO they are not, but what are vacation togs. Many Friday afternoons when we get home from work we actually state that we are going to put on our vacation togs. Togs is a neat little word, kinda archaic I would think.

my vacation togs are sweatpants, t-shirt, and a couple hundred beers.

Maybe "togs" is Slavic

I always thought Ray said:

"I'm going to go slip into my vacation tongs"

As in "flip flops"

Google: tongs footwear

That's what some people call flip flops, right?

I always thought Ray said:

But apparently he did say: "Vacation togs"

I looked at the script just now & googled "togs"

Meaning: garments, clothes, especially for a special purpose, a getup, an outfit... etc

I guess I was wrong, but mystery solved...!
