Aspect ratio and color grading

It bothers me a little that when they put the movie on DVD and Blu-Ray they simpley crop the 4:3 picture, top and bottom, to make it 16:9 aspect ratio...

Is it possible to watch the movie in 4:3 with bars on the sides?
 
This epic saga continues. I am finding that if my old VHS equipment fails, I thought I could go out and find a cheap VHS player in the local listings. For many years people have been practically giving away old VHS players and old CRT tube tv's, trying to get rid of them.

Now, look for a VHS player on Ebay. They want 100 bucks or more. such time has elapsed that now the supply versus demand has changed.


Anyway, I got my hands on a VHS player have finally gotten VLC player to capture and save to to a mkv container. The goal is to get the US VHS version added to the list. Let's hope this time it works!
