Already drank a few hundred beers.

Sounds like a successful Burbs Day to me!

I mowed my lawn for the eight-hundredth time!!! I didn't snap, though.

And of course I watched the Burbs.
 
Well after putting on my Burbs Shirt:



And putting some blood orange juice in my Burbs cup:



I was ready to throw in the Arrow DVD and watch the Burbs in high resolution.

Afterwards I listened a little bit to the soundtrack:




Great Burbs Day. And (I just found out) it was also Tom Hanks' 60th birthday.

Great coincidence.

Ray, that was an incredible Burbs Day you had there! I'm still jealous of your cup!
 
What is Burbs day? How was the date decided? I remember people talking about it on the IMDB forums too. It wasn't uncommon for people to eat pretzels and sardines on Burbs day.
 
How did the idea Burbs Day come about? How was it decided to celebrate on the second Saturday of July?
 
Well since I was involved in this, I can answer: This goes back a couple of years ago and has its roots in the imdb message board.

As far as I remember there was a Burbs Day before and I'm not quite sure where the day itself comes from (I assume it comes from the old John Osborne message board which once existed prior to this one here). However, Burbs Day seemed to have no regular date.

So one day on the imdb board we decided to celebrate it on a regular basis. We decided for July since...well it's warm and it's summer and we assumed the movie might play during this month. Originally we wanted to make a simple rule: Every FIRST saturday in July. However, since some members on the board said they were on vacation that day or for some other reason not available, we decided to choose the second saturday of July on which everybody seemed to have time. And ever since then (must have been around 2004 or 2005) it has never been changed :)
