Cheesy 80's commercials

I also appreciated the "Tom & Jerry Kids" show which they showed in the early 90's here in Germany every saturday morning at 8 am.

Here's the intro:

Walter, I have your dog.
Man the old T&J were brutal - but funny. I don't think they have the horrible effect on kids that certain groups would have you think they do.
hahaha omg i looove some of those tom and jerry episodes. I've seen every one of them, it was def my favourite show! <3

"no..no it's my note."
Here's a funny thing. As a child I watch T&J (my dad loves them). As a dad now, I have bought my 4 year old daughter a T&J DVD with loads of episodes on it. Fantastic. Yes they're a bit brutal. I wince now (I never did as a kid and I think that's an important point - kids are very resilient and see through serious issues like 'social learning theory' etc, to just seeing an anvil land on Tom) but my daughter laughs out loud. Obviously itchy and Scratchy expand that idea. But come on. Comedy often has slapstick. You've Been Framed all physical harm really. When Art falls through the shed...when Rummy falls of the roof...when Art falls over the Klopek's fence...it hurts them...but it's fun! I love T&J.

Re: 80s. I always think of my horrible years at school. We moved house away from all my friends. Our house was the epicentre of activity for the area. Everyone gathered on my wall at night, and we all played games. I was at junior school. Then. It all went to sh*t. I turned teenager, went to the big school, split up from friends into huge classes, and we moved house from the place I was born. Then there was the Cold War. And so I hated it. But NOW, I look back at the pop music; Gary Numan, Human League, Duran Duran, Dire Straits...and realise the 90s and 00s were crap. 80's movies, so many great ones including Burbs. But a plethora of great 80s movies. Recently? Past coupla decades...a few decent songs and films...
Thankfully, we never had "Yo Yo gangstah rap" or R&B (which ain't real R&B) and stuff they got now. We had music. Now all you have to do is operate Windows XP and youre in the charts. No chance of number one at Xmas tho - X Factor has that covered forever.
In conclusion though; 80s stuff - and Im assuming Ray's talking of Moon Boots, Rubick's Cube, etc....- was cool.

"...we should sue them..."
I agree, the Tom & Jerry humour is slapstick. Tom gets a pan knocked over his head, you can see the bump growing within seconds and in the next scene Tom is totally recovered again. No one gets permanently harmed. It's the same with Roadrunner. The poor coyote gets burned, smashed, crushed, driven over etc. put that doesn't harm him.

Once I saw an episode of a manga named Naruto. There was a scene in which one of the guys got his arm chopped off including fountains of blood squirting out. This is far more dangerous than some good 'ole Tom and Jerry.

Walter, I have your dog.
Roadrunner simply RULES. My very fave. Along with Muttley.

Hahahaha I made that point Ray, about instant recovery, to my daughter yesterday. A pool ball smashed all Tom's teeth out. My daughter gasped and said "Aw...poor Tom he's lost his teeth!" I said "Noooooo in cartoons no-one is really hurt and you watch...his teeth will be there in a second". And they were lol.

I think far more damage is done by irresponsible and trailer trash 'parents' allowing young children to stay up all night, watching 18 rated DVDs and playing those first person 18 rated X-Box/Playstation (or whatever) games.

"...we should sue them..."
The parents are to blame, I agree. I don't blame the game industry for making sick games like "Postal 2" or producing a new part of the SAW - series within a year. If you're 18, you should be able to handle that, if you're younger than 18, you're not supposed to play it / watch it.

Nonetheless I have to wonder why there is a certain need in our society for extreme stuff like that. Does the popularity of Hostel & co. reflect the downfall of our society in a certain way?

Walter, I have your dog.
speaking of retro and such, i like the 50s style! lol. i hope that one day i can start a 50s cafe (mostly for truckdrivers, as it would be located at this road that goes past our town, where the truckdrivers have to drive through)

i also like the mafia-ish style of the 30s, with the glamour and the mafiabosses, LOL.

MP&THG King Arthur and the black knight - your arm's off. No, it's not. What's that then. It's merely a flesh wound. I've had worse.

With blood spurting out.
I like the '40's. With the cars and fashions. But mostly I love the airplanes. P 51s and P 38s and the Supermarine Spitfires. Bf 109 was a beautiful aircraft.
Dan, you ever seen the original Flight Of The Phoenix? Ive seen it a billion times...funny thing, Ive been in bed all day today (first illness in 2 years) and watched it in bed on DVD. Love that movie.
