how's the law in your country? in Norway, it's supposedly illegal to capture a wild bird and tame it as a "indoor-bird".. wtf? well, actually, i do think that wild birds belong in the nature. I know that if I ever got a wild bird (like a crow or a raven etc) i'd always be wondering if it's really happy or if it misses being outside (if you get it while its really young, it wont exatcly miss it, but it will probably want to leave anyway)

But I'm wondering.. if they ever were to make a movie about someone who either owns a crow or something, or even a flock of birds.. how do they get them? and how do they manage to tame them and teach them tricks etc.. without breaking this law? (well atleast here in Norway) Where do they even get these birds? (probably some zoo, but in most zoo's they dont exactly train the animals, right)

it's weird though, cause the crow is a very smart bird. supposedly one of the smartest, and you can get them veryyy tame.. so it's kinda sad that you cant have them as pets. (unless you buy from someone who breeds them, which is probably the best)

I'd like to have a crow of some sort. I think they are beautiful and although i should probably just respect them and watch them from afar, i still cant help but wanting one for my own, ya know? :\

what's your opinion about this law?

Crows, Rooks, Ravens...they're big birds! Not sure I'd like one as a pet...bit kinda....dunno.....morbid looking...black as death.

Yeah, I agree... crows are kinda creepy... eerie looking and very eerie sounding...kinda like death. I do respect them however and recognize their place in nature as with all living things. I'm not sure if I'd want one as a pet tho. Damn noisy, they are... I remember not long after I moved into this house there'd be crows early in the morning, just after dawn, on an almost daily basis in the backyard scavenging for food (the neighbors probably thought...'I don't remember crows around here before...') and DAMN were they loud! Big bastards, too! I haven't noticed them so much in many years now. I hope Art didn't pop too many of them...that would be a shame.

I agree with Maniac. I have respect for them, as I do all creatures. Except flies. Hate flies. Although we'd be in a mess without them. If it wasn't for the humble dung beetle we'd be up to our asses in sh....
.....well ...anyway....

We get a lot of Magpies. They burn my ass. I put food out for the birds and squirrels and the Magpies are first on the scene whacking everything. Greedy Magpie b@$t@rd$

LOL i think we have a magpie nest in a tree ouside our house. its a big ol pinetree ish tingy.. so we cant see a nest, but i know i've seen magpies there, looking as if they were building something there. And some months later, I saw something shining in that tree whenever the light was just right, LOL. Like, you know when the light reflects in a a CD or a mirror or something. that kind of shining, lol so i guessed it was one of those silly magpies who's been doing some stealing (we have a lot of random stuff on our porch!)

You guys nailed it. Crows are some of the smartest animals around. They show problem solving levels of intelligence and I believe a couple of them were observed using tools (not hammers and nails and stuff like that but pebbles that they used to raise the water level in a bottle so they could get a drink or something of that nature).

In the US all migratory birds are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Doesn't protect non migratory birds but most of those are protected by other laws. Raptors are protected by the Eagle Protection Act. Game laws protect numerous other birds so only a few species fall outside the umbrella of protection and those are usually introduced species such as the English sparrow, starling, pigeon (rock dove) and some others.
