This month’s Australian edition of Empire Magazine has a really well written interview and retrospective on the films of Joe Dante. One of the films discussed is The Burbs from 1989. It was interesting to read, that Tom Hanks had never played a father before in film and wanted the part of his child (Dave Peterson) written out of the script before shooting. Dante acknowledges that it has more of cult following now and that that studio has no plans for a blu ray release anytime soon.

Is there an online version of this article?

Yeah, it would be great to read that article. Is it somehow possible for you to scan it and post it somewhere?

OK I found something but this seems to be older. Nonetheless it contains a few information about The Burbs as well.

And asked for a sequel he unfortunately replies: "I think the chances of a sequel are between slim and none." :(

Here's the article:

For a guy that was so visionary back then, that sure is an answer that totally lacks vision.

We have 3D today, and a lot of talented artists out there, the movie could be made into 3D, totally animated.

That's one of the great things about 3D and Motion Capture, we have an awesome future coming, great movies like Back to the future, The Burbs, Ghostbusters etc... could use the original cast at their original age...simply by doing character design + motion capture with professional actors, and you'd have this possibility into the future (very NEAR future I might add!)

Tsk Tsk Dante...vision up!
