I have the DVD of The 'Burbs and have had the VHS copy for so many years and neither are of great quality. The DVD I have is really dark and didn't transfer well although it is an official DVD of the movie and the VHS is really old and I was wondering if they'll re-release it on DVD again because this really sucks not having a prestine copy of the movie.

I did see some rarities online.

I wish I could find these DVDs as shown in the links here! But I might just go for the download on the last link as it looks good.

I also have the DVD and a VHS copy which was part of a Tom Hanks Box set from years ago. I agree the DVD could be better so after some research a few days ago I purchased a copy of the UK DVD release which apparently has the best picture quality next to the 720p HD broadcast on American TV.

Hmm...

...didn't know the Burbs on DVD was distributed with different qualities worldwide.

I thought my DVD with the Burbs was rather good, it's not very dark, and plays well on both my DVD & fat-tv, and the old crappy projector.

I'm happy with my DVD; it has a nice grainy look to it. It will be interesting to see if there really is much difference in UK version.

Got the German DVD, the US DVD and the VHS and am quite content with the German DVD. One of our (former) members, Art Weingartner had the UK DVD and if I remember correctly he posted a message about it somewhere here but who knows where this thread is gone.

We also had a discussion about the "uncut" DVD and as far as I remember the "uncut" version basically wasn't much different than the "usual" version.

My DVD copy seems less lighter than the VHS, I played it on both TVs, analog and plasma screen TV and it was still a little dark even when I had adjusted the brightness on the TV itself. But maybe it is the TVs after all. I'm planning on downloading a copy anyway and I got some packages of blank DVDs so I'm all set.

I wonder what the uncut version has in it that isn't in the regular cut? If it's like longer scenes, extra scenes, of course I'd want that too!

And what happened to Art? Is he no longer around? Sorry if this is none of my business and no need to break out the cloaks and huge BBQ grill or anything, I'm just curious. Nobody knows where the hell he is, is that it?

My VHS copy seemed is a little darker too. It was actually really good quality for a VHS tape. The DVD looks its best when I watch it via my PS3 which up-scales it to 1080p on My LCD TV.

Yup, he's gone. One day here, next day gone. Didn't even say goodbye when he left. And we saw no moving van.

Same goes for Bonnie Rumsfield, who used to be the admin of the board and for example created all the avatars we're using now. Gone like a freight train, gone like yesterday, gone like a soldier in the civil war, bang bang.

Art and Bonnie left to go look for night crawlers and we never saw them again... :holy:

Well I guess we shouldn't worry and overwork ourselves because they might show back up. I'll begin to worry if I see people hanging those Pine things on their porches.
