Every time I watch the Burbs! The COUNT thread...

And so on.

So "The Burbs" indeed contributed in finishing my studies and make me the person I am today.

You may have stumbled upon the secret to this forum right there.

We're the burbanites, we LOVE to have our own lawns to mow, we love this life, being neighbors together, and hanging around with friends, it's a good life...people in the big cities doesn't have this kind of life, but I bet most of them...especially as they grow older...wants and dreams of a life like the people living in Hinkley Hills.

As you may remember from the welcome thread (I'm not sure if that was the place I wrote my story, pretty long one anyway)...but I also attribute the Burbs movie for bringing me where I live now.

I wanted everything they had in that movie...well...except the murderous neighbors of course :p that's just a part of the movie plot, but there was an alterior motif behind the movie besides the plot, and that's what you have explained perfectly!

Even though I've just been a homeowner for 1 year, it has been the best year of my life, it's not Hollywood, it's not Malibu Beach, but it's awesome...

...this is my NEIGHBORHOOD - and GOD I love this street!

I hear you.

I'm working in a big city and decided NOT to move directly in this city but to stay in a suburb quite far away. That means driving through traffic for about 45 minutes to sit in some dank wet bureau but it's worth it.

A couple of days ago three of my colleagues came by for the first time. All three of them live in that big anonymous city and I'm sure that they have their reasons. We're working in a big bank (yeah, yeah, I'm one of the bad guys) and life in that big city can be fast, loud and shallow. Whenever I told them about living in some quite square (hope this is the right word for it) place where people mow their lawns on sunday, beautifully design their backyards and so on they were looking at me like "Dude, you're not THAT old." But this is something like my "refuge" from that flashy city/life.

And you know what? When they visited me they all agreed how beautiful this place was and how lucky I am for having found it. Probably deep in our hearts we're all Burbanites.

And yeah, now that you mention it I remember that you also stated that The Burbs was one of the reasons which brought you where you are now. I guess Olsen and Dante really didn't have THAT impact on their mind when they made The Burbs. I wish, I could somehow tell them.

They'd probably think of me as something of a weird fanatic film-fan for going THAT far... :D

Seriously though, we're onto something here...it's the "suburbanite" thing, I think.

It's Saturday and I just watched it again (well, the first half, that is...love that neighborhood feeling thing)

Speaking of this Saturday, for the Americans - this day is Citizenship day ( http://www.patriotism.org/citizenship/ )

And I've been working on the last window frames I needed to isolate, the wood frames where slightly detached from the frame socket (yellow burned tiles, bricks), so I filled those up with some PL-400, better prepare - especially if this winter become as bad as the last two years Wolf-Winter (Vargaår in Swedish).

This will hopefully save me some $$$ in energy cost, and keep the body happy during this coming winter.

As a construction engineer I give you the thumbs up!:)

1kr/kWh can get pretty costly during the swedish winters :)

Actually, with Net-transport costs & taxes, 1Kwh actually cost 2 SEK (2kr), so it's very VERY costly if you're dependent on Electricity for heating, luckily my house came with a Pellet system that halfens that cost (at least!)

It's a furnace that burns wood pellets (yes, I have a FURNACE in the BASEMENT!) :D

I've been in your basement but I didn't see a furnace? A mans furnace is his own business if you get what I mean...

So I suppose your furnace goes up to 6000 degrees as well? :D

Don't know...haven't tried yet :D

Btw: Watched the Burbs YET again yesterday, of course with a few beers, cheers neighbor!

cheers!

I was about to watch it yesterday but it ended up being poker night with some friends. Have a hectic week but I have already booked it in on Saturday. Maybe (just maybe) I'll watch Stephen King's IT as well.
