Holy guacamole! How much is gas (petrol) where you live? Here in Oregon it is $4.15 9/10 a gallon! It's costing me almost $40.00 a week to go to school and back and to go grocery shopping!

Hm, we neither have gallons nor do we have Dollars but at the moment it's about 1,55 Euros per liter.

Anyway, too expensive.

With a nifty little online converter...

1.55 Euros = roughly $2.39530 (American).
1 gallon = 3.78541178 liters

Let me try out my math here...

1.55(Euros a liter) x 3.878541178(liters in a gallon) = 6.0109 Euros a gallon or....
$9.289395 American dollars!

So y'all are paying about $9.30 a gallon if my math is right... I think I'll shut up now about the prices over here.

Well, I'm glad I still can but indeed there are people in Germany with long distances to their place of work who pay around 300 Euros per month just to arrive at their place of work. Those with low income levels already complain that it's "not worth" anymore to go to work.

The problem is obvious: from 1,55 Euros per liter about 90 cents (0,9 Euros) are taxes and go directly in the federal budget.

Many years ago the federal government decided to raise taxes on gas in order to attract more people to public transportation.

it all sucks, but what are you gonna do...

I doubt that we are able to change the situation.

Here in Houston, unless you work downtown, you virtually have no option but your personal car to get to work. Our public transportation system stinks. I used to van pool in a company sponsored van, but changed jobs recently so that is not an option. I thought that Europe was better off in regard to public transportation.
