Most of you probably aren't aware of this event

Interesting. It's the guys we don't know and probably even never hear of which save the world. Incredible.

There must have been another incident which almost lead to a nuclear war when Jelzin was president. I once saw this documentary on the History Channel but I can't remember much of it. I just remember that it was very close to World War 3 as well due to a false alert. Jelzin virtually must have had his hands on the trigger already.

I remember that....I remember hearing about that when I was a kid. The threat of WW3 was always on people's minds back then. They made a TV movie in '83 about the after effects of a nuclear war called, appropriately enough, "The Day After." It takes place in the midwestern United States and deals with the survivors trying to come to terms with what happened and how to survive. I lived pretty much in the backyard of the filming location at the time of its release and I'll tell ya, it had people more freaked out then Ray Peterson after a night of watching the Klopeks in their backyard! It's a very dramatic picture and still chilling to this day. I'd recommend seeing it if you haven't already.

I saw that movie my senior year of high school, our history tacher had us watch the movie(with perental permission of course).
It scared the crap out of me.I felt like Queenie in Rumsfield's yard!

Yeah, that was effective the way it was done. Didn't it take place in Kansas?

There's another very good movie about that subject called "Threads" (1984)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090163/

Also very recommended and extremely disturbing.

I've had both of these movies on DVD for some years now. I have a fascination with WW3 movies and post-apocalyptic events. Hence I do have Threads, When The Wind Blows, The Day After, Damnation Alley, On The Beach, in fact many, many more. Threads is extremely unerving as it takes place on my backdoor. I lived through all that 80s armageddon threat crap and it was horrible. On THREADS all the public information films are also shown, complete with chilling 80s 'jingle'.
The only one I haven't got is THE WAR GAME as it's dead expensive. I've seen it though, on YOU TUBE.

Here's a scene from The Day After

Here's one from THREADS
