Okay, this should be a good thread for a laugh!

This is all about how our country is basically collapsing from within due to petty crap, agencies and certain individuals focusing on minor, unimportant issues...etc...

I invite you all to post a story from your country which details how ludicrous it's getting.

Here's mine for today.

A hospital.

Now, this hospital for 3 years has allowed women to sit and knit, whilst waiting for their appointment (which here is around 3 years).

So, they have sat and quietly, contentedly, knitted, contributing to blankets for charities. Seemingly peaceful occupation? On the face of it, normal? At first blush, acceptable? Well...

This has now been !BANNED! Oh yes, the health and safety people in the UK have assessed this as risky, because the plastic knitting needles are too sharp. You think I'm kidding?

Thse are the people who last year ordered schools in winter to apply for licences to take school children out on bus trips, in case they snowball each other. Oh yes...you think a 10 megaton nuclear weapon is a threat? or biological weapons? Anthrax? Sarin? No no no...we're concentrating on the good stuff here. Snow. It was ruled that children have to be so many feet apart in order to throw snowballs at each other.

Oh and for daring to play tag!

Still, stories like this, along with a healthy diet of soap operas, chat shows, reality shows etc... they all help to guide the average citizen away from real issues such as what our government are up to...and unemployment, high taxes, what we are doing with our armies around the world, the environment etc...

your stories please?

The problem shouldn't be coming up with instances - it is: where do I start. I can't give the link to the story as I would hope to do, but a few years ago a very young elementary school student was expelled from school or otherwise disciplined for innocently hugging a child of the opposite sex with whom he was friends. Zero tolerance and all that

oh god there is tons i think.

there was this debate not long ago, about trying to make people eat healthier, so they wondered if maybe it was best to keep all the candy behind the counter, so that you couldn't see it, and thereby not be tempted to buy. LOL but it never came through though. thank god. I can only imagine if they did this, it would take forever to be done. "hmmm. i want a snickers. no no wait, I want a Mars... mm and uhm ...lemme think.. "

there's probably tons more, i have to do a little research.

There are indeed tons.

But as for your other issue.... Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.... Homer Simpsonesque drooling.

Re: Reeses ...my best mate is Canadian, lives here. I heard him talk about these when he was a kid. I found some recently and bought him a few packs as a surprise...man....drooling it the word.....

lamest ever, in norway (and probably some other countries i guess) - the legal age for alchohol is 18. BUT that's only for anything containing less than 22 % alchohol.

i mean, if you drink anything stronger at home, nobody really cares, but you cant buy it in the stores if it has more than 22 %. LOL what's with that? the rule is so silly, as if kids wont get hammered nontheless. gawd. *rolls eyes* and the price alchohol is through the roof. i worked with a girl from poland, and if you wanted to buy a bottle of vodka there, it would be around 40 kr (NOK), while in Norway, a vodkabottle is up around 400 - 500 kr NOK.

Yeah...but Poland and Russia consider beer to be okay for kids don't they. Like soft drinks... As vodka is the real bad guy over there...

yeah she told me it was common curtesy in poland to share some vodka with whoever came to visit them. like she would go visit her friend, and her parents would pop out shot-glasses, and they'd have a sip of vodka. not to get hammered, but just like one sip. she wasn't sure *why*, but it was considered as being polite and a way of welcoming someone.. i guess. lol

to me that sounds crazy, but ohwell. and in denmark, (for those who're not good with geography, it's a small flat country right under norway) - and the legal age for drinking alcohol there is 16 i think. (but i'm guessing they have a limit for strong alchohol as well, not sure)

i still think they should remove the age-limit for strong alchohol in norway. i think you need to be 20 or 21 years old to buy anything over 22%.

that's norway in a nutshell, trying to do everything in their power to save absolutely everyone in the country. the minute someone dies in this small country, eeeverybody has to change their lifestyle and we have to forbid stuff, so no one can do it again. it's like the example you gave, chris, like if someone killed a person using a badger, then we'd have to whack all badgers in the country, incase someone else does it. *rolls eyes*

Yes indeed, badgers are a ruthless lot and need to be severely curtailed. Actually, I have quite a few firearms that have never, ever been used to hurt anyone unless you happen to be a paper target or a clay pigeon (skeet), in which case I apologize for putting a few holes in one of your relatives.

oh yeah! and we had these uhm, what are they called, uh, well, you know those slot machines? you put money on them and play, trying to like get three cherries or whatever, and you win. yeah, we used to have those around supermarkets etc. everywhere. and the money went to the Red Cross i think, but then the government removed them, cause "too many people used all their money on it and had gambling-problems", but they will get the slot machines back up of course, but the money wont go to the red cross anymore, but to the state. WTF????

Farmers all over Norway are WHINING, cause they leave their sheep UNATTENDED in the friggin FOREST, and then they whine when the wolves or badgers, etc kill the sheep. WTF? we have 17 wolves in Norway.. 17!!!! YES 17 wolves, and they keep complaining, even though they get paid for every sheep that gets killed. WTF? If it's that bad, then get a friggin person to watch the sheep. CHRIST!
I mean, i respect people who still have farms in Norway, cause it's tough enough as we pretty much get all our food from outside the country, but still, that's no reason to whine and shoot wolves when no one is watching.
*rubs temples* it just annoys me that they dont undestand how moronic they are. Farmers, of all people, should understand that it's in the wolf's nature to kill a sitting target. Let animals be animals and dont blame the wolves for the farmers neglect. ARGH!
