Yeah...Obama promised to try a new way of communicating with Iran, of reversing the damage of the previous administration foreign policy-wise...and that he will keep an eye on the neighbourhood.
In our system you have to differ between the president and the chancellor.
The president is the head of state. However, the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany restricts his power only to representative tasks. He also checks if new laws are in accordance with the constitution.
The chancellor on the other side is the head of government. The chancellor is the most powerful of all politicians. The chancellor determines the guidelines and principles of the politics of the German government.
And yes, currently we have a German chancellor, Angela Merkel. In my opinion she's doing a good job.
Here's one pic which shows: no tan lines this evening:
Ray P. I didn't know about the president/chancellor system in Germany. Now I am learning. And I agree, it seems Angela Merkel is doing a great job... At least for 3 weeks a month. LOL Sorry, it was a JOKE!

No need to say you're sorry, I'm no Merkel fan or something like that. In fact I have a very distant relationship to politicians in general. Somehow they're all "one kind". So for being a politician, Merkel's results have been alright so far. The economic crisis might change this very soon since Germany is totally hit by that crisis.
