One thing that first struck me about this movie was the kind of 'reality' about home life. Ray and Carol are seen arguing and shouting "WHY? WHAT AM I ACTING LIKE CAROL!" and "I can't go out without you asking where I'm going?" and "I'll eat take out, I'll clean the house it'll be spotless when you get back!".

And yet we know they love each other and are happy.

In the rare movie where you get a couple arguing, it will either lead to divorce or murder.

I can't actually think of another movie where a 'normal' family husband and wife shout and argue, yet there's no mention of them splitting up. Because that can be a normal part of family daily life.

I also can't think of another movie where a teenager, drinking a strohs with a grownup neighbor on the porch, seemed so normal.

I loved their little conversation(s) because they seemed so normal and contrary to other aspects of the movie not exaggerated.

Haha - I have to agree ... somehow it's perfectly alright with Ray if Ricky Butler is hanging around drinking beer with Art. At the same time, (although there are some empty threats) he lets his younger son hang out with Ricky.

It seems like the best times of the Ray/Carol relationship is their Jeopardy time (which they might do together each night). Their bickering is always humorous - especially Ray's level of sarcasm when he's taking the dog for a walk.

I can relate to Ray and Carol. I'm married and we bicker at each other from time to time...that's just life. And (this is true) the wife and I watch Jeopardy every night together. :)

So Jeopardy is still running in the US? Here in Germany it was canceled loooooooong ago.

Still going strong. Great game show.

So maybe while US radio seems to suck, there are still some great gameshows on TV. In the early 90's we had it here in Germany as well, Jeopardy, Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune...But nowadays there is nothing.

Love jepoardy. We record it on the dvr in case were not home. (you know, visting the new neighbors)
