just a thought. is there any chance that rumsfield was full of it and was never in the war, and just talked about it like he was there. maybe he was a "fraidie cat".

That's a possibility. Another theory that's been floating around is that he had some kind of non-fighting assignment in the war, maybe some kind of writer or something like that, but then again who knows.

Yup that's what I also thought. Rumsfield was indeed in the war but working in some administrative function. When he came back he acted like being a great war hero.
