I posted this on Facebook recently, and figured I should obviously post it here as well.

You know the sound the furnace makes, at the beginning of the movie? When Ray is standing out there, and it's shutting off? I've heard the same sound in other movies. Newer movies! So far I've heard it in MIB 3, and the A-Team movie. Anyone else notice this, and other movies? I wonder how long Hollywood has been using it. It's like the Wilhelm scream.

My husband as also heard it in the Star Wars movies.

Just something I noticed, and thought I'd share.

Thanks for sharing, I'll look it up.

what kind of noise? Like a low frequency hum? ;)

I'll keep an ear out for that sound in other movies.

I know what you mean although I have to admit that I've never heard of it before.

But very attentive. And very interesting. Probably you indeed just discovered something like the second Wilhelm scream.

I'll also check if this has been discovered before. Maybe it even already has a name.

My siblings and I used to make movies together. We're adults now, and no time to do that stuff anymore. In one of our last, I used a lot of music, and sound effects from the Burbs. This sound was used in a scene. I heard it so many times while I was editing it, that it must have been embedded into my brain. So now, if I hear it in a movie, I immediately know what it is.

I also heard the same sound effect in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom, in the beginning of the movie when the plane is running out of fuel

The sound of the furnace failing to start is a total ILM sound. It is the same sound the millennium falcon makes when it has a hyperdrive failure. And for sure used in Indy and so so so many other movies.

Ilm is credited for the audio in the opening sequence inthe burbs.. But I know this is the same sound when Ray, Art and Rummy are scoping from across the street. so they did some other work too.

And Knapp Sack? WHERE YOU BEEN PINOCCHIO?!?!?!

Haha, it has been many years.

A couple weeks ago, I was lucky enough to see The Burbs on the big screen for the first time! A group of my brother's friends rented out a movie theater and chose to watch The Burbs, so I had no choice but to drive the hour and a half.

It was only 12 people spread out through the theater - but I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time. Between the lack of social interaction and seeing The Burbs with other people, it was amazing.

I haven't logged on in a while, but I knew I had to check if this was still going!
