Anyone check this series out on Netflix? Its one of their originals.

It's set in 1983 I think and they definitely pull from classic 80's movies like the Goonies and E.T. and Firestarter.
 
Argh, I don't have a netflix account but I just checked out the trailer and it looks awesome. 9.2 rating on imdb, lots of positive reviews. Seems to be worth checking out.

I just recently discovered a light-hearted comedy series which captures the 80's spirit very good as well. It's "The Goldbergs". It's some innocent humour combined with some warm moments, I really like it. And EVERY episode features lots of 80's references.

This is the third time in the last week that someone has recommended Stranger Things to me. I'm defnitely gonna have to watch it at some point.

And The Goldbergs looks great! It's been around for 3 years so I have no idea how I missed it all this time. I need to check it out!
 
Highly recommend The Goldberg's as well. Ton of great 80's references and super funny family sitcom.
 
Do they say what year in the 80s it's set in? If it ran a few years maybe one day they'll sit down to watch The Burbs!
 
Hah! that would be cool!. I think they have a few years as I think it was 1983.
 
The way I perceived it so far: The narrator of The Goldbergs always refers to "1980-something" which is kind of a running gag. This way, they are also more flexible in bringing in toys, games, music and movies which do not conflict with some timeline. However, in the pilot episode, when they are playing REO Speedwagon's "Can't fight this feeling", the son says "This is Top 40" so judging from this we could assume it takes place somewhen in 1985.
 
Stranger Things is SO GOOD. Def one of my new favorite Netflix shows.
 
Stranger Things is also on my radar after it getting recommended to me several times the past few days.
 
I like it when something comes along that gets recommended to you so many times you're forced to watch it. Stranger Things has now reached that level!
