SPOILERS EVERYWHERE - BE WARNED!
Re-watched the workprint yesterday and realised I hadn't left my impressions here?
There's a lot of lines in various scenes that didn't make it to the final cut. Like more lines from Bonnie, extended garage scene, more garbage men lines, extended going over the fence, extended digging scene and the klopeks kitchen.
I see why they cut them out as they didn't add anything important and kind of dragged the scene out. I did wish they kept the added Bonnie lines though.
They cut out the whole BBQ scene after the bee attack. It was fun seeing Ray at the grill but that scene was so weird? Carol making a joke and then running off into the house laughing felt so out of place. It does go well with the whole theme of the workprint cut as it seems Ray and Carol kind of loathe eachother.
This comes more into view in the cut scene where Carol is typing on the computer while Ray tries to get her attention.
The extended dreamsequence was awesome though and I wish they kept it minus his boss showing up.
I'm glad that they swapped out the workprint version of breaking into Walters house. In the final cut you get some way better atmosphere and dialog.
I also think they made the right choice of redoing the ending. The final ramblings of Verner Klopek about suburbanites felt so awkward and out of character. In the final cut we got awesome additions like the ambulance crash and Arts wife coming home.
And thank GOD! they changed the music. The music in the workprint felt SO weird compared to the final cut.
In my opinion it's also good that they cut out the subplot of Ray losing his job. It did absolutely nothing for the movie.
I'm happy that we got to see the workprint and it's pretty amazing that Joe still had it but I like the final cut a LOT better.
