The burbs box office ratings

Interesting. Thank you for the link. February 17, 1989 was the opening weekend, probably that's the reason. Who cares. The Burbs beat Rain Man, yeah.

I've always heard that "The Burbs" failed at the box office.

Here are some information from my little Burbs book:

Budget: about 17.000.000 $

Box office returns (total): 36.601.993 $ (USA)

In my opinion this is quite successful.

Yeah, If I could invest X amount of dollars for a couple of years and then get back my investment and as much profit as I invested, I would do it every time.

On that link, it said that it grossed $11,101,197 first weekend... I'd say that it was successful.

I agree. If you adjust for inflation, that would put it ahead of a lot of movies first weeks now.

What cost $11101197 in 1989 would cost $19223552.79 in 2007.

Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2007 and 1989,
they would cost you $11101197 and $6590207.35 respectively.

This was curious to me since I've always heard The Burbs was a bomb as well. I doubt anyone was complaining about the first weekend but the film didn't seem to have much staying power, which might be the basis of the 'bomb' claims

that's a nice profit for a so-called "bomb". I wonder how much more money it's made from video sales?

Well I personally have dropped at least $40 on it. I bought 2 VHS tapes of it (I am pathetic, one of those was an emergency backup tape in case the first one cratered) and the DVD.

I got the British Uncut and US DVDs. I sent Hanne (YellowTangerine) my video a few years back cos you couldn't get it in Norway.
